BYOND is pretty close to being fully capable of replicating that game down to the pixel... except for the fact that it runs in a browser.

Edit: That game also runs on iOS safari.
I'm making a game and soon a group of people will launch a really, really, good game..
I did donate 25 dollars, And I know some other people on my server donated too. (Apollo Station here, by the way.)

I was thinking about trying something to get more funding toward BYOND, but then realized it wouldn't be of much use, considering the average SS13 player.

Doing the math is effective; like Tom mentioned just $2 from everyone would solve it every month but it is just a matter of communicating that to the entire base of people he is mentioning (which is the unique hits the server receives).
$2 from everyone would solve it, yes. But there's people that are unable to donate, or don't want to because they won't get anything off of it.

I can only do so little in talking to people on my server, I can't force, nor tell them to donate, all I can do is nudge them into the right direction.

(Welp, just tried. Couldn't get anywhere.)
Well that is just the math, not the practical, of course there are fee's and such involved but that is digressing from the point.

I will donate next time there is money on the card, that is all I can say, past that it is all just speculation on all of our behalf.
If I wasn't on the verge of living in my car... Again... I might be willing to help, but quite frankly, BYOND doesn't mean as much to me as it did back when I first joined. And to be perfectly honest... My personal life far surpasses the importance of BYOND. Hell, I only come on BYOND when I'm bored now a days. It's lost it's thrill to me...

However, since this program has in fact taught me a great deal about programming, I would be willing to donate a little bit if my finances permit me to do so on my next pay day...
Thanks for all the help everyone-- and please don't spend what you can't afford. The main thing here is for people to understand that we don't make a heck of a lot and that every contribution helps. I know a lot of people just take BYOND for granted (or even think it totally sucks... but still use it???) and most of them will never consider helping. If you are in the minority-- and pretty much everyone posting here is-- know that we really appreciate it.
I don't think BYOND "sucks"... I just dislike some of the new updates to it. I'm getting older and out growing BYOND, don't take it personally, Tom. I still like programming... Even if I don't put my games online anymore... I am grateful for the BYOND program so don't think otherwise from me.

Just look at Space Station 13's fans list. not even 10% of them are BYOND members. o.o
Alright, I have an idea.. since 30%(or even more) don't even check the site.. put the Meter on the BYOND page..? If we all donated a small 2 dollar, every month, everything would be fine! I'm pretty sure a lot of people would pay 2 dollar a month if they saw this meter.

Which is precisely why it would be great if some of the developers on it, or if not maybe even someone developing another server for it, would include membership bonuses in the game.

I know that isn't always as easy as it sounds, but I am sure even if they just added some cosmetic icons and such you only had access to as a member this would help. I'm glad someone from SS13 tried to promote donations, but the best way to get that community into Truly Helping BYOND is to get some member benefits into the game.

Hopefully some good games will come up soon that provide Member Benefits, but it would be even better if some of the existing games found a way to do so. I plan to include them in most of the games I make from now on, and I hear that someone working with RP Unlimited will be trying to include some; so hopefully SS 13 can get involved in this too.

It might take a lot of thought, but I don't think it's a lot to ask for from them.

Edit: The only tricky part here would be that the hub needs to enable that, but I've heard that people still speak to the original designer who has that hub, and I am pretty sure some other people would have access to it by now as well since it's open source.

Something could be worked out through BYOND on this, too, I am sure. There was no measures put in for handling BYOND Membership on a per server basis yet, which is something Open Source Games with Multiple servers like SS 13 could really use, so I am sure if any Developers on it got interested then BYOND could implement something simple and quick for this.
The best way to get people to donate is to tell them the software they are using and the game they are playing can be much better with more advanced capabilities if they donated.

If people realized that, they'd be throwing their money in Tom's direction every month.

As soon as I get the game world finished in Pondera I will work on adding Member benefits; I've already added a small exp bonus upon first joining.

@ post below ~ I'm going to be bringing a very dark, gritty, survival RPG to byond so maybe it will cater to his older appeal. I'm still debating Permanent death in certain situations (dying to enemies 10 levels below you or something).

Outgrowing BYOND? Impossible.
Maybe, in place of the advertisement when you start up a game, you could include the BYOND Fund-o-meter instead? Even if its just every other game load or something like that. At least with that, EVERY player (besides members with ads turned off) would at least see it. Some may get curious enough to click on it, and other may decide it would be worth donating to.
That's a pretty good idea. We could at least use it as a fallback. That said, in the latest versions of the pager, the Fund-o-meter is right there on the Home page. I think people are seeing it. A lot of people are still using <499 though.
People don't like change. The same happened with the shift to BYOND 4.0. A lot of people stuck with earlier versions for a heck of a long time.
Honestly the new pager is much better than the old one, I was one of those that was hesitant but I gave it a shot and I do not regret it at all.

I believe a lot of them simply don't know to update.

I disagree with you. At first I thought the contrary of what you thought and so is at the end. The pager is horrible, not in design, in speed. It lags my computer and crashes my Chrome, sometimes. When BYOND is open for a long period of time while my computer is in the "sleep" mode, it crashes most of the program that uses internet or that is related to BYOND(Dream Maker). I would love to have the old pager back.
