BayJune wrote: Why visit BYOND if you are going to complain about it? Why contribute to a business effort if you are going to complain about it? The above reversals of your rhetorical questions demonstrate the inadequacy and inherent hypocrisy of said questions. Largely speaking, your home decorating analogy is invalid. Tom felt that he was spending too much time moderating backalley blogs that were poorly put together, and had little progressive impact on his business endeavor, so he did away with them. I agree with his decision. They reflected poorly on BYOND as a business. In the end, BYOND is a business, and right now, a failing one. It was not a rampant success when the blogs were in full swing. Why should we expect that bringing blogs back will improve the reputation or profits of the brand? I mean, given that we have direct evidence that having them in the first place made little impact on the profits of BYOND, and a large impact on the reputation of the product in addition to additional workload by the staff to maintain for little to no benefit, that is. Tom did away with it all because he felt that it was negatively impacting his ability to sell his product. It's not like he walked up to your site, and took it away. He simply stopped offering a service that you conditionally rented from him. Regardless of how you feel, I can't help but note that your argument seems to become ever-increasing hypocritical, being that you criticize others for telling Tom how to run his business, and that you know better than he does, meanwhile you are contradicting things that he has repeatedly insisted were harmful to the very thing you claim to have the most insight on how to run effectively. Now, when told that Tom's feeling was that it reflected the site poorly due to the unprofessional appeal, you defend your argument by making a poor analogy to your property being seized due to looking too shabby? (Which by the way, is completely legal in many countries. If you don't maintain your property, you can be evicted per numerous statutes. Even something as simple as painting your house blue can be considered grounds for eviction in some areas.) It just strikes me as incoherent, is all, especially considering your lack of presented evidence that returning to an already failed endeavor would in any way benefit BYOND as a business. Maybe you can enlighten me further with your reasoning why this would be a good thing for BYOND, but as I see it, the numbers just aren't on your side. |

I'm not gonna read your wall of text, it's too late at night my brain is already fried. You're always coming up with stuff that's just elitist and supremacist. You also said not too long ago if you were Tom you'd shut this site down and gave up along time ago and more proof you're just a forum dweller who's no good, you don't do anything for this community but try to prevent things from happening like now and every other time. Tom listens to people like you who think they know about marketing but running this company to the ground and continues to when your plans fail every year. Save it please, you're still here and you're a bigger naysayer than anyone. I want to help this site by making fun games, and you want to sabotage it by forum dwelling and sticking around longer then you should have.*Since you think the plug should have been pulled.* Terminated, I'm gonna go smoke a tree. |

You cant call yourself an adult if you cannot respect others decisions. It's barbaric refusing to let others enjoy what they like, especially if it's gonna do you no harm unless you're an complete moron who cannot exit a page which takes a second unless hamsters are keeping your internet up. |

I'M not surprised as I said before, gamer's play games, developers play games, dwellers play forums. You're not gonna know what our true community wants if another group is speaking for us since we're actually doing something with BYOND. And it gets even more downgraded than what it is. I don't understand why people can't like what others like, I'm obviously, not a peaceful guy but I respect others decisions. I'm a young black male from Chicago who's 19 years old and been through hell yet I respect others more than the grown men on this site that's been here for years. I'm puzzled. |

Just so we're clear, you think I don't deserve to be here, but you do, and I'm the elitist?
That's a mighty broad brush you are painting me with there. How about we stick to the debate in question, instead of resorting to ad-hominem. You will note that not once did I refer to you in any way that was not referential of your arguments. Not once did I insult you. Not once did I try to presume your character. You have crossed the line to personal attacks, not I. Call me a troll, call me what you want, call me a naysayer, but at the very least, I have applied logic to an argument, and attempted to stay on topic. Unless you can carry on a mature discussion without resorting to personal attacks and childish behavior like the last post, I see no worth in any of your arguments whatsoever. Why should the developers listen to someone who cannot help but make bald assertions with no factual weight whatsoever, and when confronted with criticism of the idea itself, have to result to hurling insults and crying about hurt feelings? You have no financial model. You have no financial plan. You have a pronounced opinion and an inability to comport yourself appropriately. |

Please save it, I mentioned I'm a dropout, and learned grammar from arguing with people just like you over the years on BYOND. I have no shame, I have no grudge. I don't care, nothing is personal, it is what it is. Everyone sees it, like me they don't care that much but they see it however they're too busy playing games and I should be doing that too but it's time a real BYOND developer speaks up and make a difference instead of the current dwellers in the control room messing shiz up for the rest of us. As I said before, you're probably, smarter than me, but far from wiser. You've learned things, I've experienced them, our grammar is a good example of that. I didn't goto school to learn how to write this good, I've been through enough online debates to learn every-time. My point is as a developer you guys are so wrong, and I know you're wrong because majority of the dwellers been here for over 7 years and haven't made a popular game, yet on the forums everyday. ALL THESE ARE FACTS, AMEN. |

This 'point' has no point. The majority of the developers who actually 'try' to make games try something no one else has done - everyone is tired of the generic RPG grinder, as demonstrated in almost every anime game on BYOND. These grind mechanics leak over into the more recent 'not anime but still generic RPG grinder' game. People like those kinds of games, people also like games with fancy graphics, even if the games have no content. We have a lot of capable developers, the 'dwellers' as you say. Except, the concepts introduced by these 'dwellers' don't get popular because they're unique. No one likes unique things on BYOND, apparently. |

As for not making one popular game on BYOND... Yeah, you're right. I haven't. But if I'm the elitist, why are you so damned determined to prove that you are better than me? |

I've been here for 4 years and could easily call myself a forum-dweller, hell even the Help forums have my name on the top. Twice.
However I am still a developer. I have released a few small things and participated in some contests, but as of yet have not made a very popular game. I don't have a problem with that either. It was only last year that I was finally confident enough with my skills in DM to start doing things more actively (Such as the aforementioned contests). I am also working on a larger-scale project at the moment. Of course there is no guarantee of release, but I definitely want it to. Well I think I have rambled enough to prove my point that one can be a developer and a forum dweller. |
