Howdy there guys. As of late, Super Saiyan X, Ishuri, and I have been working on a timeline of events for BYOND. It's rather bare bones at this point, but I think it covers most of the notable events.

If anyone would like to contribute, just hit me up and I'll give you edit rights to the document.

Or just tell us what you want to add, via post here, or comment on the doc.

There is also a different view of the page, in non-editor mode.

You missed the BYOND Linux guild, you also missed two years 2001 2002.

Sorry but whats the point of this?

We can't add information from those years if there is none available.
March 25th, 2008 marks the first public release of server-side (still the only way at this time) DLL/SO calling support (at Version 413.978).

I'll let y'all know if other beneficial things were added.

Mostly just for fun, but also it could help answer questions users frequently have about BYOND's history.

Thanks! We'll add it in.
2001 - 2002 The spawn of Dragon Warrior rips Racing car rips and Dragon Ball Z rips and creation of GTA on BYOND.

It would also mark a happier time on the BYOND forums less trolls more actual conversations being allowed to take place.

It marked a time where BYOND was actually updated more than once a month unlike now.

But yea I don't remember all that much I was only 12...
Don't take my above post seriously it is just a joke :)
Seems like mentioning the release of Dragonball Zeta and the explosion of players on the community is worth noting, it was a controversial injection of interest (the wrong kind though) in to BYOND.
Worst timeline I ever seen. You left out the most crucial events in BYOND history.

You forgot the part where Tenkichi threatens BYOND forcing me to establish the BPL ( BYOND Protection League ), which results in my blog being banned from the front page sparking an outrage amongst a few of my followers who got their blogs banned as well for flooding the front page with "Unblock BYOND Protection League". During this time I had tampered with the dark energies of evil and founded the League of Really Bad People until I was purified by Teka not too long afterwards and my blog ban was lifted.

Shortly after, I was thrust back into a war. Only this time the stakes were much higher. Oasis decided to build an army of his own and came to name his minions "BYONDlings". With them he attempted to overthrow Tom and take control of BYOND, but I wouldn't stand for it. I, and several other brave warriors, stood united and together we formed the BYONDite tribe. For the next year, our two forces waged great battles until finally Oasis realized he was no match for my sacred frog jutsus and conceded. Thus, peace was restored to BYONDia and all was well.

Well, not all. Fabric Mage and Ballsack were having a little scuffle of their own with Falacy's butthurt player base. After the C&Ds, Falacy's legion of imbeciles bombarded NEStalgia with a vicious attack - but Fabric Mage didn't go down so easily. With a mighty whisk of his wand, he sent all the dimwits back to the WotS rip from whence they came and BYOND had finally become a safe place for all players to dwell.

Sorry if this is too much detail, but I happen to be a BYOND historian and I know a lot about this subject.
Uhm. No, we're just including important stuff.

You forgot to mention Bleach: Lost Nachos. It was pretty big once upon a time.

In all seriousness, though; cool idea guys. It should be an interesting and informative read.
I'm glad that my attempts to overthrow Tom by making a webshow will be included in this timeline.
Mar 22, 2007 - ACWraith starts Along the Tech Tree.
May 4, 2009 - IainPeregrine starts the Get Something Done challenge.
Dec 30, 2010 - ACWraith's final Along the Tech Tree. (#191)
Feb 21, 2011 - Public featured game standards posted on BYOND Volunteers blog.
Jun 1, 2012 - LordAndrew starts features of the month (aka Sticky Features).

Also, the private Guru Venue forum went dark sometime around Feb 26, 2011. I encouraged gurus to gather in BYOND Volunteers for a more open environment and a greater set of tools. Unfortunately, an unintended result has been a decade's worth of discussions being hidden to even volunteers.
Nice.

Maybe we can summarise that as "The community became more interested in social status than developing games."?

WP:NOTABLE
http://web.archive.org/web/200102010600/http://byond.com/

That page has some release dates

http://web.archive.org/web/20011129013554/http://byond.com/

And more along with a website upgrade.

Date Added: 7/25/01 - Creation of Tanks by ShadowDarke

Date added: Apr 11 2002 - Creation of Proelium by SilkWizard

Update of the BYOND website again - http://web.archive.org/web/20030323125808/http:// www.byond.com/ - this would mark one of BYOND's BEST website designs.

<insert tons of rips/fan games here>

You'll be impressed by the wayback machine they have captured a fair bit of BYOND's history.
