Yep. Definitely sticking to areas for hidden passages. Also, I took off that bit of rock at the edge. Looked wonky and at least this way, when you're in an area such as this, spotting secrets won't be too difficult!

Im going to be checking every single wall for a hidden area :C.

one thing i learned about hidde areas is that even if every single secret wall in your game is heavily hinted at, players will still assume you're going to hide one somewhere stupid and insist on humping every imaginable wall

That's the fun of games with hidden walls, though!

Lmfao!

What if there is a hidden wall in the ceiling and we have to use our second boost/secondjump thingy to reach it :O!!

Thanks for the ideas.

I wanted to make sure this stood out as a being that is more "digital" than "magical". Hopefully the change in effects helps with that distinction.

If you want it to appear digital, I'd go with industrial glass blue, or matrix green rather than magic missile pink.

Might also mix in some green 1 and 0's just to make sure. ;)
Well the whole point of the colors is that there's more than one of these entities and I want them to be easily distinguishable from one another.

As for 1's and 0's. They don't use binary =P

Some symbols in general does sound like a good idea though.
Could leave a trace trail. Think lit up motherboard trace lines with occasional nodes on the back wall.

Could be more abstract like this

or more traditional looking like this;

As for the back wall, it could be something of a glimmer effect where the little guy's power is just enough to power up digital components in the background. Has the effect of seeing how things work behind the scenes.

Something like this quick mockup although I don't capture the depth or fading tail I am thinking of.

^^ this.
I did something like this really quickly.

I personally feel like that is overkill and it looks fine the way it is now. Could use some color and small effects tweaking, but it looks great.

The trails are generated on the fly. I will probably end up reducing how often they get created though.

I might have just ejaculated.

Looks great and certainly more digital looking. Variable speeds may allow for fewer and may even enhance it.

Imgur killed the quality, but these are all randomly generated.
