This post made me LoL.

Anyway, the publisher hasn't asked me for one red cent-(at all)
Just info about my game, asked for a playable and directed me to 2 games that they actually have on steam.

Not sure why everyone seems to think I'm easy to scam. -_-*

But no..in general that's not the case.
Oh, so you found free labor is what you're saying.

By all means give me his email address, I've been looking for someone to do work for nothing in return for a while now.

Nope. Didn't say that.
Did you even read the post where I explained all this?
Probly not. lol.

Anyway, this thread still hasn't been responded to by the 1 person who can actually do anything about it so I would say it's a done matter.

I'll just focus on what I can do from my end.

Good luck.
There already exists a byond game that is on steam.

Byond has steam api support, Its hidden in the code, but I can confirm that byond's code checks for the steam api dll and enables certain features. Most likely enforcing a steam id from the client, a steamid var on the client, and some other code.

PM lummok_JR and ask him about this directly, or use the contact us button at the bottom of every page.

Really bad idea. The BYOND community is the last thing you want associated with any success of BYOND. There's no greater hive of scum and villainy.

Ok, stop right there...

I run a space station server for a community derived from 4chan.

This community is a godsend compared to my own. Never let complacency blind you to what you really have.

Well the chat log you posted has "The Publisher" asking for 20% ( to which you later on in the chat log deemed "acceptable" ) and now you're saying they never asked you for anything. So I don't know if the Publisher is working for free or working for 20%. Or if he's doing both simultaneously.

The point I was trying to make is that pretty much anyone who promotes their game is going to get emails like that. People send me the same BS, telling me Tower20 is a godsend game and they would LOVE to work with me on getting it some exposure. When in reality it's a buggy Dragon Quest clone that can be beat in 3 minutes so I know people are not even really playing the game if they're coming to the conclusion that Tower20 is awesome. I understand businesses need to make money, but the fact is I rather give 20% to someone I have a legitimate relationship with who genuinely likes my games and shares the same goals as opposed to someone I don't know who's trying to get me to empty my pockets through flattery.

They're just looking for anyone and everyone to give them 20, 30, 40%, whatever the case may be when in reality you can do most of that yourself and not give a percentage to anyone. Perhaps that is easy for me to say since I have Photoshop and Sony Vegas experience but both of those are really easy to pickup. I'm not sure if you remember the NEStalgia "promotion campaign", but according to Silk, all they did was send a few emails to a few gaming websites ( and I think they also had some sort of Facebook ad, can't entirely remember ) and that was all the promotion they needed. I don't recall him mentioning he was giving 20% to some random guy who contacted him and said his game was awesome. Maybe he did, but I never saw a post saying that.

I'm merely advising you seek to make legit relationships with people and give money to them rather than throwing money at random people on Facebook who tell you your game is impressive.

I didn't really read all of that.
But I'm just going to elaborate. They said their fee is 20%.
They never asked for money up front(and to date, have not)
It's a pretty standard publishing agreement from what I can see.

When it comes time to handle finances, we will both be signing a legal contract that states from henceforth, they collect 20% of what the game makes in return for their services up to that point of getting the game out there. Which includes, but is not limited to, press release, publishing the game on steam (which in itself costs a fee) a few visual things like logo re-design and the like.

Not sure why everyone is making such a huge deal out of something that is pretty straight forward.
I'm also aware that I can do all of that myself. Very aware.

Thanks for the input, but I'm going to see how this plays out.

You mean the 4chan community is better than BYOND? I'm honestly not surprised. I've yet to find a community that I think is worse than BYOND's tbh. And I've been through quite a few on reddit. Maybe those morons that think Bernie Sanders is the second coming of Jesus but at least the mods are trying to rein that in.

@AAF Best of luck mate, I'll be here laughing if things go wrong like Ishuri's recent misadventure. Cheers.

That's not what I meant and you know it.

This community is a godsend compared to my own.

You can continue to try to take potshots at byond for whatever motive you have, but in the end the only thing that looks toxic is you.

BYOND is 4chan's challenged little nephew.

don't make me whale face....

Yes, yes, we get it. 4chan community is a godsend compared to BYOND. But that's really not BYOND's fault, as one of the rules of 4chan is lurk moar but on BYOND the rules are make the base before you make the game.

The irony is that with any sensible platform, you wouldn't be subjected to BYOND but since the site/client are tied to the software, you had no choice. You shouldn't have to jump through hoops to distinguish a game made in DM from the BYOND website.
actually i clearly stated the reverse.

byond's community is a god send compared to my 4chan derived community.

this community is a godsend compared to my own.

Everybody only read what they wanted to read.

The entire point of my post was the person i was replying to is judging based on their personal scale, byond is the worst they've seen because for the most part, it's all they have really seen.

This is very accurately put.

You're stoned. Clearly all the years of marajuwana smoking has depleted your brain cellulars to the point where you can no longer appreciate the brilliance that is 4chanerino.

But fear not, for this brain damage can be reversed by switching to legal alternatives, such as alcohol and cigarettes.

You must've been from a weird furry 4chan board if you think BYOND is good. I've been through several 4chan boards and most of the users were fairly amusing. I'm also a part of several subreddits as well as HnH. None of these other communities are as toxic as BYOND.

He never once said BYOND was good. All he stated is that it is a godsend COMPARED to his own; Which is 4chan if you needed yet another clarification.

Exactly this. ^

Correct me if I'm wrong, but nowhere did I see him say BYOND's community was good. Only a comparison.

My question is wtf are you all arguing for?
One person makes a statement.
Person 2 finds something in that statement to nitpick about.
Wash rinse repeat.
Ftw.
