@ Roxas--I didn't end development on Ki Warriors. It's just not my priority. I have 3 paid programming jobs in progress.
Kage is my main project. Ki Warriors is a hobby project. I'm also slated to help with Ethereal Saga as soon as the art is done. I'm pretty busy, not to mention real life stuff. Ki Warriors is actually the last on my list of things to do. Rock Bottom. Yet- I still manage to accomplish a lot more than most of the developers in this community. @ Anyone else with an issue: It has nothing to do with someone getting something you feel they don't deserve because honestly a lot of people making snyde remarks couldn't match my work ethic on a good day when I'm having my worst. Only weak minded people throw shade when they could spend their time actually trying to accomplish something or better themselves. Hate less, work more. Show your projects and stop being so petty. Maybe then I'll respect what people have to tell me. |

I'm just going to assume that, since no answer was given for my question, there won't be any. I'll proceed on my own and I'll leave BYOND's name out of any publishing work that occurs from this point on. Thanks anyway.

It's been a while since I've looked into it, so my info may be out of date or wrong, but here's what I remember:
There is a standalone packager, but it's not currently public. I think you have to contact Lummox JR through the support form to get an API key and the packager. Then there's a bunch of config files you can fill out to customize the launcher and how the server listing works. Since NEStalgia is on Steam, they probably got Steamworks and the Steam overlay integrated, but I haven't had a chance to check it out myself. I would imagine you could set it up to use BYOND guest keys and then build your own account system if you didn't want your players to use BYOND keys. I also think there were some more changes planned for the packager, as previous developers had found it difficult to setup correctly. I'm not sure if those changes have taken place yet. Once the webclient is complete and stable, it's likely that a new standalone packager would be built around an embedded chrome browser. Lummox JR would have the most up-to-date answers to any questions you might have. I would suggest contacting him. (because it's Thanksgiving in the US, he might not have seen this thread or had time to respond) Also, before agreeing to or signing anything, I would recommend speaking with a business attorney. Also also, if the publisher's website is down, you could always look up past versions of it on the Wayback Machine. (it might also be worth doing a whois lookup on the domain to see if a real company owns it and how long they've had it). |
I wouldn't get your hopes up - this seems kind of sketchy to me. In the event this is legit, best of luck to you.

Lel, it's almost like the things that I've been complaining about are holding you back but everyone said "Don't worry about exe until you have a game", disregarding that eventually you'd have a game. See this is an issue that could've been covered if you had thought about distribution from the outset but noooooooooooo that "wasn't an issue"
This publisher sounds kind of sketchy. The manner of speech doesn't sound like that of an adult, but that of a child. Very unprofessional. How does the publisher benefit? Has the publisher asked for you to spend any money? Seriously, this sounds super risky. |
Indeed. I was contacted by 3 or 4 "publishers" or "advertisement experts" via email who were looking to work with me on getting Tower20 more exposure. They're all just looking to make money off of your game somehow, they don't have a legitimate interest in your project. I replied back asking them what was it about Tower20 that they thought was so fantastic ( It's a faulty and poorly drawn retro game I finished in like 3 afternoons when I was just learning how to use Construct 2, there's nothing special about it ) and the chick contacting me couldn't give me a straight answer. She says "I never played it myself but my co-worker said he likes the retro music."
So yeah, they're just looking for any idiots willing to pay them for their "advertising" or "publishing services". In fact, judging by that chat log you posted, I wouldn't be surprised if you were contacted by some loser from BYOND posing as a professional publisher. |

I love the amount of hate and negativity u guys arent even answering the topic post ur just hating for what ever reason.
obviously he will get proof for Lummox and him self.Worst case The guy isn't who he says he is but honestly most indie games on steam use these these company's mainly because people dont really like doing there own advertising they rather be spending the time on the game it self. And while i get the whole they trying to make money of people thing I say not sht so are u and everyone else in the world. For what they say they will do is pretty standard its usually about 30% if ur game is under early development and they put u on with development teams that will charge u a discounted price. I over hread someone say that real artist will cost u $30 an hour and while it can be true it not set in stone all the artist i work with will work at discounted prices if they like u and u have something to offer like work for work or if u join a dev team and contribute. Then ur art will flow in at a better rate. But anyway i just wanna ask If it is real and someone really likes his concept and game would u support him or continue taking shots because u feel like because it didn't happen to u its fishy. How can anyone like his game my mock ups and gifs are better my UI and interface are great but fact is iv tested his game fully im it has potential u don't see that alot here just so called big project 2-4 years in development with no game play just a nice UI ,mock ups,and gif that ever show combat. And the constant Date drops that never seem to make it. Here u have a game of substance, story, tutorials, pvp, pve, boss battles, with a chibi feel witch is popular for indie games. With some polishing can easily do well but people here tend to put down progress. It weird cause he didn't ask if his source was real or fake just asking how he should go about it. But u are right about one thing publishers/advertisement experts dont care about ur project but it doesn't meant u shouldn't use every tool u can even if it cost little. Good luck with things Avid |

You are mistaking general concern for sketchy business practices for "taking shots". Really, the people commenting here are more concerned for AAF as an individual than they do about this "fear of success" or "jealousy".
|
I have to agree here, the fact the website was down and that he spoke in such a familar/childish tone to you, despite approacing you for business, shows how unprofessional the person is.
but for all we know it could be real so who cares as long as u don't end up paying the guy |
No it was said that they don't believe it because his game isn't good enough for someone to want to take it to steam. Thats what i was talking about not for people with real concerns. Im just saying they talking about his ego as if hes some 10 year old kid that does no research. im just say take the best case to the worst case. He not some idiot who would just jump into anything like that with no proof. Hes just trying to find out the steps to make it to steam not just for the deal but in general.

There is a term, "What goes around, comes around".
If you'd seen how this individual treats everyone else, maybe you'd understand why there's a certain level of salt from everyone else to him. Regardless, if it goes well, fantastic! Don't forget to mention BYOND, if not for the community, soley for the language and what it helped you achieve. |

The BYOND community is the last thing you want associated with any success of BYOND. There's no greater hive of scum and villainy. |

Agreed and i have been watching post for 7 years now including Avid and everyone else all iv seen is he post a comment then gets attack for having a fan game as a side project even if it has nothing to do with the post. Then they attack his Programming ability Saying things like his games arnt good enough. Then people get mad when he points out there history of failed games to his complete one. Yes u should be professional when talking to people but dont act like hes the only one at fault for how he comes at people when far before he joined Byond the forums where toxic. This is a place as a community where we should be helpful to each other but sadly its the same 5 or 6 people who have everything negative to say but nothing to offer the community.
