Greetings, BYONDers! As your new benevolent overlord, I bring a message of hope. Actually, it's a message of a cool game being developed with the webclient that's looking for your involvement. WritingANewOne asked for a little time on the soapbox, and I'm happy to oblige. So here he is:

Hello all, WritingANewOne / Chance here!

Myself and Doohl started a new project roughly six months ago... an attempt at a fully fledged, polished MMORPG using the BYOND software. We were encouraged by the release of the HTML5 client and what it could offer, in terms of both performance and exposure. We did our research and saw that there was a lot of potential there, so for the following months, time and money was invested into an ambitious project. Something we'd enjoy as players and wanted to see out there: an arcade-like ORPG with colorful, fun graphics, and gameplay to match.

Fast forward, and we have Severed World on our hands! It's came a long way, with a cluster server system that can handle hundreds of players and dozens of features coded... replayable dungeons, guild tower sieging, MOBA-like death matches, etc etc. And some really neat things have been done with the HTML5 update with smooth, client-side menus, (props to Lummox & Tom). We're at the point where we're going to be opening up closed BETA sessions within the next few months!

But we're also at the point where funds are low, with all of the art costs, sound and our living expenses being too high if we want to release this project consistent with our original vision: full of great content and polished to satisfaction. Given how well people took to the project on social media and Greenlight we decided that it'd be a good idea to start a Kickstarter. So if you like the project and think it has potential, please check out our campaign! Or if you can't afford to pledge, share it to friends or forums you're an active member of:

Thank you so much, BYOND!

All hail the overlord. He comes to speak.

In all honesty, I'm looking forward to this game. My girlfriend is looking forward to an Android port.
Where are the stunbatons?
Thank you!

If you have any questions, feel free to send me a pager message or I'll reply here.
Can I have admin in Eternia?
looks a lot like Wanderlust.
Wanderlust was AWFUL.
Much of my upcoming development for the webclient is focused on improving performance specifically for games like this (using this one as a test bed). Doohl has been doing really cool work on custom controls for the game.
Damn Lummox. This is gonna to be the shit.
The game is actually looking great. Hope to see it on Steam.

Thought $20 is pretty harsh.

I can agree with this. I think the game would do a lot better priced lower (though I am a huge advocate of micro-transactions, so definitely a bias here).
We're priced at around $15 (10 pounds). I was mostly basing this on similar Kickstarters and how much the average person backs on Kickstarter (around $30 IIRC). Hopefully it's not too high!

What language are you making the game in?

The game's made in BYOND. Unless you're asking for the actual geocultural language - English.

Yea sorry, what programming language, so in this case DM :)

Thanks.

I do have one issue with your page, you don't list BYOND anywhere? This could really generate some interest in the language and framework as a whole bringing in more developers, more players and hopefully more $$ is there a reason why it's not listed on the page?
Yes, this is a BYOND game. Also, we've broken $1k in a few hours... awesome!

And we didn't mention BYOND mostly because while the engine is awesome to the point where we probably wouldn't be nearly as far in another language, its reputation isn't great due to what's essentially a lot of untapped potential. And this Kickstarter campaign is very fragile: I want to do everything I can to ensure that we'll hit our goal.

But don't worry, we'll show off the BYOND logo proudly once the game is live, while also showing off that it can produce smooth, effecient games if done right. :) And projects that benefit from browser support exposure.

You're showing this project off to the masses, you might get 1 out of 1000 people who actually know what BYOND is..

I'm sure you'll hit it even if you listed BYOND as the framework, but that's up to you I just don't see any issue with it.

Well at least you're supporting BYOND in one way.
Take my money just take it.
Really looking forward to this game. (:
Well dang. Got the third package. Couldn't resist.
I as well^ @Syxoul

I am also hopeful for the upcoming documentary that must follow. "From Byond to B****es; A Rags to Riches Story". Directed by Frank Darabont. Narration by Werner Herzog.
