I currently develop a game (Dragon Ball Phoenix, for those interested to know.) that has a bit of a problem with griefers.


Normally, this wouldn't be a problem. However, said griefers have been determined to bring the game down for over a year now, and have gone to some pretty disturbing lengths to try and achieve that.


Earlier in the year I posted a topic about an exploit in Byond's code that allowed a user to DoS servers that were hosting games. The person in question who was responsible, Exgenesis, distributed the hack in an attempt to bring down Phoenix. It then lead to some problems for other games as well that had that exploit open. Exgen, was seemingly dealt with after the exploit was patched out, and all was well for awhile.


Unfortunately, deprived of that avenue, he and his friends have taken up a new method of griefing. They've started harassing me outside of the game, because of my involvement in developing Phoenix. This has been going on, on and off since the Byond administrators dealt with him the first time.

Here's a quick list of their most recent "shenanigans".

They've attempted to impersonate me on other games, and on chat services, by making fake versions of my official developer account, in an attempt to stunt development growth. One of Exgen, Kartamas, and Kite's most recent antics include keeping an interested server host on hold for several months by trading false emails over an email account with my account name, but the wrong @___.com tag.

They've openly made false reviews of the game using the Byond service in order to drive players off, and have impersonated me, posting screenshots on Byond of "me", doing some very sick things.

All of these reviews and impersonations have, thankfully, been outed as being fake. They used old versions of Phoenix for the impersonations, which are easily identifiable as such.

They've even gone so far as to try to reverse engineer a way to ruin the servers of the game. Something that, quite frankly, won't work. Partially because Exgen himself is not a very good coder, and partially because he doesn't have the necessary hash file to initiate those access rights within my game.

This last one has been the most damaging offense, however it is an in-game issue, though related to the out of game issues. Currently my server is down (An admin panicked and shut the server down upon noticing a "test run" of the remote ruiner that failed. I'm fixing that as I type, actually.), and our population has gone from 200+ players online, to about 60, tops.

When I originally brought this up during the time when the DoS exploit was in, the Byond administrator who contacted me told me that in-game issues with players should be solved in-game, however the exploit allowed him to get involved on that end of things.


I'm making this post today because those same players who were griefing the game now, are attempting to harass me through the Byond service itself.


Are there any rules that deal with this sort of behavior? And more importantly, is there anyone I can contact on Byond's staff to talk to them about it? To say what they're doing is childish would be a vast understatement. Hell, reading through some of the impersonations again, it's downright sociopathic in some cases.


Previously, I wasn't too concerned about their behavior, however the recent influx of players who have contacted me saying that they had been fooled with the fake email and service accounts, along with the fake reviews and impersonations has convinced me that this is an issue that needs to be dealt with.

We were down a server host for some time because of one of their more recent stunts, something that's not good for a game with a large population.

It is also not something that can be solved in-game by me, either, as it takes place outside of my jurisdiction as a game developer.

This isn't even getting into the fact that the players in question causing the problems have avoided logging into any of the actual Phoenix servers on their accounts for months. They are entirely outside the range of my ability to deal with them, despite them causing problems for both the playerbase, myself, and the game.


Edit: Some of the screenshotted impersonations of me are quite...Nasty, to say the least. So I hesitate to post them here on a public forum. However if a Byond administrator replies, I can send them to him directly.

I'll also contact some of the people who have been hoodwinked by the impersonations and ask them to post here, once I get a chance to contact them, if that will help.

Okay that is just rude to start with, then trying to get him for harrasment for stating an issue against you? i am all up for debates and the like, but at least act your age.... nevermind, at least act like mature adults, if ya can't, or won't do that, then don't reply, simple as that.
