idk if this is glitch but my pettles dont do elemental dmg, and if they aren't suppose to then is there realy any point in having an element on bya zan?

Elements are for status effects and for appearence.

they vary damage based on what element type you're attacking, though I'm not sure if they effect skills

i tested it and it doesnt actualy affect pettal shield or petal stream.
