Curious, in computer terms what does the word 'cash' mean?

But being realistic its down to Cash and Money, not counting game money, made up stuff and whatever.

Well I have a next door neighbour ok. And he says something about Cash and RAM so I am not to sure what he meant, but I doubt he was talking about cash as in currency.

3. A store of goods or valuables concealed in a hiding place: maintained a cache of food in case of emergencies.
2. Computer Science. A fast storage buffer in the central processing unit of a computer. Also called cache memory.

Basicly, its storage on your PC for fast recovery of things saved onto it. BYOND has one, its what it saves extra stuff from ingame (new icons, sounds .etc) in.

Thanks :D I think I understand, I guess you would use it for site for browsing for example to access recent pages without delays etc...

This is why the American pronunciation of "cache" sucks. =P (At least I assume it's the American pronunciation.)

Us Aussies pronounce it like "caysh" (that's a pretty poor rendition of the pronunciation but you get the idea) rather than "cash". It prevents a lot of confusion. =)

As has been said by Redline, you've basically got it. I just thought I'd expand on it though, seen as your Neighbour mentioned Cache and RAM, so he might've been talking about a particular use of Cache.

I'm going to assume you sort of know what RAM and a CPU (Processor) are, if you don't then feel free to ask. There is some space on the CPU (It tends to be about 256Kb / 2 Mb) which the CPU stored recently used data. The system uses cache in this way to speed up repeated tasks, for example playing a small amount of music on repeat.

I prefer to say it like the word "catch" that way it works for me.

And north central Americans (generalization) say "warsh" instead of wash:P The correct pronunciation is cash, when it comes to American English.
