I do not post much, but I have to speak when something just gets to me. I was having trouble sleeping(still am obviously) and I decided to read the news from cnn.com. I was quite amused by one of the headlines. So I took a screenshot and added my own touch. Please tell me I'm not crazy and this does not make total sense. Thanks!

Wow that's pretty stupid. The fact that CNN actually SAID that. If it's a spy satellite, then why is it's presence being announced over the news? >_>

"MOSCOW, Russia (AP) -- Russia on Tuesday launched a satellite for Israel that the Israelis say will be used to spy on Iran's nuclear program."

Pretty simple, really. The goal is to intimidate Iran into backing down without resorting to actual conflict. Now Iran is on alert that we'll be watching not just their nuclear program, but anything else they might be up to. Also implied is the threat that Iran is not a spacefaring nation, but the US and EU are, meaning we have the ability to do this sort of thing, and other things, at will.

Frankly I don't think Iran is going to stop short of conflict anyway. The people there are great, but their leaders are basically the exact same sort of scumbags we're fighting elsewhere around the world.

What about Northern Asia? Technically, Russia is part of it. They've got a space program too! They sent the first man into space evar.

But, y'know, it's a tad irrelevent. The US and the EU are the ones badgering Iran about it.

If it was supposed to be secret, it's just a better story! </media POV>

If it wasn't, it's not going to intimidate Iran - they WANT us to see their weapons. The point (for Iran) of having Nukes is twofold:
  • to intimidate the West into ignoring point two.
  • to either use directly for, or sell to terrorists for the purpose of, starting a holy war against Israel, and, ultimately, the west.

Actually, the story just got really interesting to me because now I've checked it out. And it's not a US or EU satellite. It was in fact launched from Russia, but it's not a Russian sat. Want to guess whose it is?

Israeli. That's right, Israel is giving Iran notice. Politically this is a huge deal for several reasons. One of those reasons is: Iran's mullahcracy are dedicated to the eradication of Israel. Another reason is that 25 years ago in 1981, Israel bombed an Iraqi nuclear plant that was just coming online. That bombing is probably one of the main reasons Saddam never acquired nuclear weapons, because lack of trying certainly wasn't one.

So Israel launching a spy satellite to peek on Iran is basically their way of saying: Watch it or you're next. While the US might not be prone, for various reasons, to follow through with an attack, and the EU even less so, it's common knowledge that Israel takes a proactive approach to defense--because they have to.

This is an awesome little bit of diplomacy.

It's Israel's? That's good. They'll do something, I think, if Iran gets close to a Nuke - something, i'm afraid, we can't trust Germany, France, or the EU. (I'm afriad it's unlikely the US will do anything either. Hopefully when something needs to be done, they'll bring a few extra bombs - just in case they fly over Ahmedennejad's (sp error almost certain) house...

Should you really be ridiculing CNN for news stories about revealing secret spy planes, Stealth 2k?

We all know about you.
