Are we allowed to do this for Fangames such as Final Fantasy?
I wish to give my users a little few "extra" things (in customization, special places to go, etc.) but I do not know if this would violate the Fangame Agreement?

Since technically it is a SUBSCRIPTION to BYOND.
Would this put my game at any more of a risk?
(either by the BYOND Staff, or by SquareEnix itself?)
1 No.

So are you saying, we are not allowed?
Or that it's dumb for me asking?
In response to Flame Sage
We ARE allowed.
2 - Square(Enix) is not going to sue you for it either.

Thank you, Mr. BYOND Official.

So he's rediculous for asking if it's okay do to something rather than just doing it and potentially getting in trouble?
In response to Airjoe
True.

giving the players in-game benefits is ok. charging money for playing the game is not.

Iam agianst give Byond Members "in-game benefits" i think its disgusting giving a byond member more benefits then a normal member even if they have or have not paid there contribution to the byond community.

Then you're in the minority. It makes perfect sense for us to encourage people to become BYOND members - It isn't a question of increasing profit margins For Dantom, it's an issue of keeping Dantom ALIVE.

I agree. Screw Tom and the years of effort he's put into this -- why should we encourage people to pay him our hard-earned money?

I'm just gonna eat fast food twice a month instead of let Tom feel as though somebody appreciates what he's doing.

That'll show him for devoting himself to a project for years without asking for a dime, and then deciding almost a decade later that he wouldn't mind recieving $1.25 a month for some cool features.

What the hell, Tom. What the hell?
In response to A.T.H.K
That has to be one of the dumbest things I've ever heard. WHY are you against it? That doesn't make sense to me at all.

I'm very glad to be able to help the community get money, even if I'm too poor to do so right now. You should think about what the community has done for you.

it depends on the game. giving certain players a bonus can ruin the balance of the game. while its great for BYOND its terrible for the game.

No one said about screwing Dantom over idiot its the fact most people well young kids can't afford being a member therefore if the game their playing you have to be a byond member to hit lvl 50 or make a guild or something seems usless to them

If you can't afford the extremely low amount of money that becoming a BYOND member costs, I really pity you.
In response to Artekia
pity me because why im 17 and i have no money because i have a life outside the house?
In response to A.T.H.K
If other things are so important that you spend every penny on them then don't complain about not having bonuses in BYOND.
In response to A.T.H.K
Keep the tone in this thread civil. Warning issued.

Exactly, I bet if you just saved a little change evertime you spent some money, sooner or later you would get $15. I bet if you had a BYOND membership right now you wouldn't be complaining..
In response to Sniper Joe
I'd pay for the byond memebership if they updated the actuall inner workings of byond and added features that might make it stand out in the crowd, i.e. client side proccessing, use of opengl, etc. Im just throwing it out there you'd get a ton more people wanting a membership if you had something extremely good to offer
In response to A.T.H.K
Generally when someone says "Give members benefits" the non-members always jump to the conclusion that it's going to create an unfair balance... This isn't true in most cases, and I believe that stands for this person's game as well.

I am all for supporting BYOND and the optional charge behind it. But you're complaining about a free ride not being good enough for you, and that's ungrateful, just enjoy what you're getting out of it and if a game designer decides to add extras for members only, that's their decision to make and theirs alone.

Personally, when I decide to add the "Members only" touch to a game it usually involves more of a graphical variation option than anything, and that seems the be the case for the majority of these ideas. As stated I like to support BYOND but I'll be damned if I'll force it upon people, I have yet to witness a game that gives the BYOND members an actual advantage to the gameplay, that'd be silly and would most likely ruin the game for both parties.

But as I stated, it's more or less a graphical bonus and if you really want it bad enough, $15 isn't hard to come by... So there's really no reason to complain, even if it came down to a game that favored members over the general public, I doubt alot of people would play it anyway, so it's definately not going towards the "BYOND's getting greedy" rumor... and if you feel that way then look at other things like this and see if you can find a better deal than free.
