I installed the AIM Triton Beta awhile back, and I hate it. It's extremely slow, and I can't block people. >=O So, I installed regular AIM 5.9.3702 back on my computer, but now it won't let me logon. It says I have provided an incorrect password. I went to "Forgot Password" to see if maybe it got changed or something, but it said you cannot ask for your password twice within 24 hours, and I haven't even ever asked for my password. So, I got on a different computer installed AIM Triton, and it let me get right on. So, like why won't it let me logon with old AIM? Does anyone else have this problem?

I do, so, I delete them both and now use Trillian.

I would too. Maybe one day someone will create a program that cannot be crashed.

Cannot be crashed? Doubtful. But, if you're looking for a stable client, try Gaim. The 2.0 beta release isn't so stable yet, but the previous release was excellent. It connects to every other instant messanger, too!

AIM Triton is only slow the first time you use it. I use it occasionally just because I don't use AIM much at all, and AIM Triton is very fast, faster than the normal AIM for me. Also, they have a new version where you are able to block people.

Actually, I installed Triton and hated it myself. Used way more memory than I was willing to spend to it. And everytime I logged onto it(which happens frequently when you have an unstable wireless connection) it took the liberty of opening an AOL Explorer window with 2 tabs. So, I uninstalled it, found the d/l link to the old AIM on Download.com, and re-installed that. It works fine for me.

Gaim is great!
It only has a few flaws (I might be using an outdated version though) - I sometimes have troubble sending files. - Sometimes I can direct connect, sometimes I can't |

usually what happens with file sending is that the service changes how the protocol works for suck things, and the GAIM developer does not get a chance to fix it right away - and maybe not for a while because he now works for Google, so he splits his time up between Google projects (i hear he's getting to play with googletalk), and pushing GAIM 2.0 out (which may include the voice stuff that googletalk has).
this is certainly true with Yahoo, who changed their protocol at least 3 times in the last two year, breaking GAIM and other multi-protocol messengers. the latest GAIM works with Yahoo again, but you can't send files due to the newest version of Yahoo. people with the previous version can send files back-n-forth still. |
