Someone who cuts parts off dead animals in order to use them for hypothetical magical purposes?
Like say "an eye of a bat"...

I'm rather fond of the term "talismonger", but it was coined by the authors of Shadowrun and is used exclusively in that setting.

I think he's looking for a specific "genre" of magic that specializes in using animal parts for spells and such...
As in "necromancy" for magic performed on dead things or "transmutation" for magic that changes one object into another... It sounds like he wants a name like one of those that applies to the style of magic that uses animal parts... However, I ran some quick searches, and all I can come up with is Xooxer's "mundane" answer of "witch"... Nothing seems to point out any specific category name... Although, it seems to me that most times I hear of animal parts being used, it is to make a potion... So perhaps something along those lines would apply? |

Well, if its used for spells it would probely be called potion ingredents, but if used for a spell using an animal part to use abilities of the animals it could be called a focas.

I thought someone who killed an animal for parts, no matter the reason, were called poachers, or something like that. :o

Try this list:
http://www.ebcal.com/family/genealogy/ colonial_occupations.htm I found it by looking for "sutler" and "apothecary", both of which could be decent choices. |

Heh, cool. I might be able to use those for card ideas in my current project. Thanks.

Shadowrun was actually one of the most revolutionary games that was ever to exist on Super Nintendo. Infact, it was SO revolutionary, the Wachowski brothers decided to take many of the games aspects and pile it into the movie "The Matrix". I find that them using the name of "Matrix" was ironic enough, but to see them running around in trenchcoats and wearing classes (*cough* Jake *cough*) is almost TOO ironic.
Hehe, sorry I didn't mean to steer so much off-topic. It's just something I needed to get off my chest. |
Just use Necromancer. they use souls and spirits for magic. The branch or magic you are talking about does not really exist. The terms for such came from the fact that a lot of the herbs we use have murderous meanings. Like Dragonsblood, which was named thus because of the thick, red substance that comes about when you dilute it with water.

Why can't it exist? Magic dosen't exist in the real world, so it's a fictional thing. Why isn't he allowed to add a branch? Who decides what branches exist and which don't? What if the person using this skill isn't evil? Usually people associate Necromancer with evil things. Or undead things, which are often assumed evil. |

He did not specify he was talking about a fictional form of magic, so I answered him with an honest answer. Those who practice witchcraft are called in general pagans, however, there are many minor branches out there as well as a few major. Wicca is one of the most major forms of white magic, and necromancy is black magic. Plain and simple. |

Prove to me that magic exists. I shall believe you then!
<EDIT> Also, show me who decides the nonfictional magic branches. Where do they get this information? And why would our lives depend on it? I think we do just fine with technology, heck even without technology we wouldn't need 'magic'... |

That will be the day that the dark demons from hell will once again unleash an attack. And when that happens, all who live on Mother Earth will need us to save them. Anyone can easily create their own denomination of paganism. However, those that involve harming any of Nature's creatures are classified as black magic. Also, prove to me that magic does not exist. NOTE: For those of you interested in paganism and other forms of magic, or about 666, go to Pagan Truth Homepage |

Who is 'us'? And also, where do you get this information? You sound pretty confident in your believes.
Also, you still haven't answered who decides which branches of magic are real. <EDIT> Sorry for hijacking the thread. >_> <EDIT2> Things are usually classified as nonexistant until they are proven to exist. So why should I have to disprove the existance of magic, when there is no proof that it does exist? |

I said anyone can decide to start their own real branch, but the ones involved in hurting anyone are black magic. I get my information all around, there are many good teachers out there, and even though I am not yet the best pagan out there, I will become good enough to be a high priest.
<EDIT> And don't apologize, we are still on topic, are we not? <EDIT2>And we are many. Just go to Witchschool and look at how many people have joined. Soon we will outnumber you, but unfortunately very few know of the upcoming war, which is why I came around. <EDIT3> It has been proven, many times over. Would there be so many of us if it did not exist? Would this have existed for thosuands of years if it were not based on fact? You are the one in the wrong, and if we ever meet in real life, I will prove it. But considering you cannot see what will happen, I cannot do it, yet. |

Witch School? Hah! This is just hilarious. Please continue, so I can continue to laugh. Do you get paid for this? Stand-up comedy? If not, you should consider a field in it.

It is true, and it has been since the beggining of time. Just as ghosts and psychics are real. Do you only believe that which "science" can prove? If so, then why does so many people believe in God and Jesus? Even I believe in them, I just do not believe that a lot of what the bible said is accurate.
