What does a contest sound like? Um, a NES mini game contest. Like lets take some of the NES games, e.g(Mario, Ice Climbers, Balloon Fight, F Zero, etc) but I would wish(to keep it simple) something more Arcade style(The original Mario with donkey kong and the barrels) It be very fun to see. But if you think this is a bad idea, don't critisize me plz cuz It was just a thought, to fancy up the forum. ALSO I would prolly say, a prize? Maybe some sorta of COOL THING?
I honestly think that making a huge bundle of NES games would actually be a good idea. There's many emulators that have the capability of going "online", but BYONDs specialty is attracting dozens of people to a single game! Imagine, an interface similiar towards ZSNES with every NES game to date, with the game capable of going up to 4 players. Some games would only go up to 2, some 3, or even a maximum of 4 players ... there is not an emulator to this date that can actually host a server of 4 players! Think of the possiblities! Old school "Gauntlet" online! Good ole' fashioned "Duck Hunt" with the capability of going high-score head-to-head simultaneous action!

It's safe to say, that it can be done. BYOND's system is much, much more sophisticated than an ole' NES. The problem is finding the correct programmer to do it, and if so, finding the enthusiasm to do so. I mean, this guy has to have sheer love for NES gaming ... if you know what I mean.

And from the shadows rose that person....

ME!

I'd take a NES and all the games over a PS2 anyday! Man the only problem with me is I cant decide which NES game to make!

But what would be awsome would be to really do your idea! I BYOND Channel that very live! But no crappy made games, we should have full made ones! Anyway I hope this thread grows!

Interesting duck hunt idea, think my Hunter of Ducks game(http://games.byond.com/hub/Artekia/HunterofDucks) is worth making multiplayer?

Name of Game: The Legend of Zelda

Contact Info:
. Email: [email protected]
. AIM Screenname: JackWeldon2k6

Why: Side scrolling & tilebased views... and a classic NES Game.

Help: None

Info:
. Extra Features-
. . I will possibly make it 4 Player, (Green, Blue, White, and Red- Link).
. . I may have it so multiple players can 'follow' each other and enter battle areas together.
. . I may add a few hidden areas (That will contain something to help you on your quest)

Any 'extra' suggestions by players would be appreciated.

I have nothing to work on at the time beeing, so why not do this game? :). If anyone would like to help, feel free to contact me. (Landscapes, Objects, Screenshots, Monsters, any information or pictures would be greatly appreciated and noted on the game's Hub)
I recreated the first Dragon Warrior game for NES a while back. However, my computer crashed and I lost it. I lost a lot of stuff back then, many thousands of hours of programming work including Byond stuff. It was back when I was at my peak of programming savagery, programming 10+hours every day for fun.

The Dragon Warrior game was not finished, but was very far along. I just had to finish programming the effects for spells and special items and I would have been finished. It was a near-perfect replica of the game. Too bad it's gone.

This does sound interesting, and many NES games would be fairly simple to recreate. I prefer doing my own unique games, but bringing back the past created by others can be fun too. I'll think about joining this li'l party you have going. I would have taken Legend of Zelda, but someone else called that already. Perhaps Tetris.

One thing to think about though; you should look into the desires of the creators of the original game. Nintendo, the creator of the Zelda line, hates having anyone else make fangames of their stuff. Enix, on the other hand, actually encourages the Dragon Warrior fangames.

Not to be a loser, but
1. Wasn't F-ZERO for the SNES? I wasn't playing games at that time, but I have emulators, and there was no way a NES could pull off F-ZERO.
2. BYOND can't do F-ZERO. Even that new "Super trippy" FPS 3D engine couldn't pull it off. Well, maybe, if it was made smoother.

Tetris plus ;)

the NES wouldn't be able to exactly pull off f-zero just like it was on the SNES, but it could make something close, even something with a similiar perspective.

BYOND can do something like f-zero

That is the coolest thing I have ever seen. Well maybe not THE coolest, but pretty darn close!

Wow, it's lovely.
Positively great.

Could do with a larger resolution, but would that effect performance?
In response to Loduwijk
Wow, thats nice..heh. Oh I would like to mention Tetris does sound like a good idea. Hope it works out :)
Well if you made alot of moving turf backrounds, and the player just kinds stay sorta moved..you could i would think. It would be very tricky I say tho!
