You make it sound like it was a punishment. =P
It was back when I got this newfangled computer that had something on it called "Windows", I had been programming on Commodore64/128 and wanted to catch up with the times. I was also a Dragon Warrior fan and was searching for Dragon Warrior stuff on the internet at the same time I was searching for modern programming, I found BYOND and Dragon Warrior Online, but at the time I did not realise DWO was made using BYOND. (I actually sent an email to SilkWizard asking where/how to download his game; and that reminds me, I never did get a response. ;) )

For a while I was trying to figure this BYOND thing out to no avail. That was back in October of 2001, but for some reason the site says I didn't join until a few months after that (I specifically remember using it on my sister's birthday which is before the date the keysmith gives, oh well. =/) Once I finally figured out that DWO needed BYOND and figured out how to get into it, I entered a BYOND game for the first time. DWO was the only game I played for quite a few months, and it was not untill a month or two after I found DWO that I found a decent BYOND tutorial teaching me how to use the thing to make my own game (It was Zilal's tutorial. Where is she anymore anyway?) I worked my butt off trying to learn the stuff, and thanks to my hard work and prior computer programming experience I forced my way into the world of object-oriented programming.

Unfortunately I suffered from quite a few computer crashes at the hands of the inexperienced cable ISP guy and lost all my work on several occasions, losing many thousands of hours worth of work that I had done over a few years. =/ I don't let myself be too depressed though, I just tell myself it gave me a clean slate to work with now that I was knowledgable in this new world of object-oriented programming, multimedia, and graphics that look like the things they are supposed to look like.

By the way, any of you who think BYOND is tough need to try working with an old Commodore computer. Working with a language that allows you to draw pictures and give simple commands to display them is a walk in the park compared to a language where you have to memorize numbers corresponding to certain computer memory addresses or have reference books to look them up in and poke numbers converted from binary into various locations to make things happen. I think everyone should go back to the good ol' days of programming for a few months so they appreciate what they have.

Oh, it was.

"You have been a bad boy, trying to use telnet muds, now, you have to go to byond!"
Actually.. back in '00 I was cruising through the old http://www.mudconnector.com looking for something else other than a text mud (DBZ theme). I then found this category called "Graphical MUD listings". So I proceeded to click on it and saw this link for DB Spar. I got all excited and clicked to the website but found out.. they were not updated. I continued to watch the website for a few months but they never updated. So eventually I clicked on the link to BYOND and voila. I found 100 DBZ games online. Hehe. I later found out they were all Zeta rips so that kind of sucked. So yeah.. Dragonball Z brought me to BYOND :S

I joined back at the beginning of 02 (1/30/02), so I don't know DUNG, but if I'm thinking correctly, I remember BYOND.raw and the old theme. I regret the time when I just joined, I was just another ***hole newb (I hope I'm better now =/). I picked up coding a few times but didn't get anywhere, and it was Wizdragon/Tarq who introduced me.

I found out through my sister's friend.....And my quest to make a good game!

Sigh...DBZ Spar wasn't made until 2000. It wasn't a really playable game until 2001.

Heh the only games I saw back when I started using DUNG in '98 was A Taste of DUNG(if you consider that a game :P) and Night Soil. I think there was also chess but I can't clearly remember that so it may have come later.

Chess came a little later if I remember, and the source was with it. Night Soil was the only real game when I got here (and it was damned fun!).
On the night of November 7 2001, I was babysitting for my aunt who had recently got internet... and me being a huge Dragon Warrior fan all of my life went looking for some DW stuff... when I found a DW fansite, I looked through it and found a link to DWO... I played that and that alone for the longest time... (prolly about a year or so) and now I don't really like to go into there... but it is still a really nicely put together game.
