You can't link directly to files on your computer, you have to have them hosted somewhere on the internet.

Answering a question from someone who doesn't understand these sorts of technical things with an answer that almost requires an understanding of these things is the wrong way to go...

Ummm, to put that more simply: If he doesn't understand how it works, he's not going to understand the type of answer you gave him...

I see this sort of thing around here a lot, too... It doesn't do anyone any good to give them answers that they won't understand...lol In fact, it makes things worse...

And so, here's the better (albeit more lengthy) way to answer him:

Files on the internet are stored on computers called servers that send the files to our computers... When we are connected to the internet, and visit a website, we connect to these other computers, and they can send us the files that they store...

A file on your computer cannot be accessed by anyone else because your computer is not a server... It is not set up to send the file to us... In order for it to do so, we'd have to be able to connect directly to your computer, and access your files... Obviously, for security reasons, this isn't allowed (of course, there are ways around that, but that's another story)

So, for the rest of us to be able to see your file, you've got to upload it to a server computer; a webhost... Or, send it directly to us via e-mail or whatnot, but that's a bit too much work...lol

[Edit:] Heh, I'm not picking on you directly, Nadrew...l Just using you as an example...lol
