I've been here for a little while, and i've been working on a game. I have all the icons finished (they are RM2k style, but they are all oringinal). Its called "Battles of Ultima" [sounds like an old cancelled Jap anime TV show, which nadrew now tells airjoe it actually was]. Me 'n' airjoe are working on it. Its going to be an RPG/Action-Adventure game. Working on a storyline...its not going to be:

1. Princess is kidnapped
2. You gotta save her and fight monsters and bosses.
3. Defeat final boss.
4. Rescue Princess and win and everyones happy.

Thats pretty much the stereo-type for RPGs. This game will be a little more complicated. Will anyone help make a storyline for FREE? seeing as how Dimes are disabled and since im new i never got any.

ALSO:
What do you think about using RM2k icons in a game?

Acceptable for the starts of a game, but if you intend to have it gain popularity you should think of alternatives.

Maz, did your read his message. It said it WON'T be that storyline. Cra Zee, I believe that the name of the game WAS an Jap program, but I can't remember it well.
I am willing to think up a storyline for you for free, but I need a little more info on what you are capable of programming and what icons you have.

Im new to BYOND, but Airjoe said he would help me out. In my opionion, he is a fairly good coder, and i think we can program a great game together. Im using RM2k icons i made myself right now, but i think im gunna try to make my own style.

My classes are the basic:
Hero (male/female)
Soldier ("/")
Fighter("/")
Pilgrim ("/")
Wizard ("/")
Goof-off ("/")

All we need to do now is pretty much get some monster icons, code a simple battle system (Turn-based, enterbattles, not overworld), do a map, get a sotry;ine, and we're done.....even though that is a lot, but Icons are one of the hard parts of a game.

If you search my key name in BYONDgames or search Battles of Ultima, my game should come up under the list...you can see some of my icons there in the 64x64 frame.

Ahh! not another dragon warrior! change the names at least. Why not try necromance instead of wizard and paladin instead of pilgrim?

I agree. Enough with the Dragon warrior copies. How about something more orginal. How about instead of having humans as the main character create a game with your own orignal races and put them on some alien planet. Then you could be free to use the whole save the Princess bit, but you could add all sort of new twists to it. And maybe have a trick ending where the Princess had arranged for herself to be kidnapped in order to find a suitable mate if your game has an ending. And if it is going to be online, why not use the alien planet to your advantage to create 3 races with their own story line, personality technology and gods. You have the opition here to just modify someone's tired out idea everyone is sick of, or create something fresh and original, may it be a little werid. User your imagination, and refrence some of your favorite books. I promise you that even if it turns out to be a little weird it will be a lot more popular than another Dragon Warrior copy.

Xeno games rarely work, unfortunately, unless you're not trying to be serious. It's very difficult to create or imagine a culture with as many achievements and failures as the human race -- if you aim more at humour and caricature, then aliens work well, since you can exaggerate some qualities (i.e. profit-mongering, logic-based, violent, etc.) and even get a few cheap laughs (As from Blasto: "We will enslave their women... eat their children... and rape their cattle!")

I will think up a original storyline that has a comedic twist to it.

You read Maz' reply wrongly, so I will tell you what Maz meant :)

Maz was saying that for a starting game, RM2k Icons are suitable.

Further into his sentence, he mentions that if he wants popularity within his game it would be best for Cra Zee if he chose an alternative for his icons, therefore scrapping the RM2k sprites and whatnot.

Anyhow, Maz never mentioned anything wrong with his plan about going for the story, all Maz was doing was giving him a little hint about gathering popularity.

RM2k images are not new, they are old. Like most people know, old images are generally known, newer images and icons are fun to see... Still on this case, newer icons and what not, increase chances of popularity -- Why? Because people like to see what's new about the icons, what's new about the styles of the icons, etc...

So, therefore; Newer is better for popularity in one case, meaning that newer is not always better.

I would prefer newer sprites, but if I have to choose a favourite turf or turf designer, then I would have to go with Foomer. -- This is off topic, but it a way, it colaterates with what I am trying to explain on the lines of "newer is not always best".

Anyhow, my point here is that Maz was on about Cra Zee's RM2k icon idea, not his storyline.
