I don't like country, rock, or hard rock :oP
|
I listen to pretty much anything except pop and rap, although there are certain exceptions (some of those damn pop songs are so freakin catchy...AGH).
I'm mainly into punk rock. Not just any bands though, I listen to bands who's lyrics I feel have some meaning to them besides, "My girlfriend left me and my life sucks so I'll go burn stuff." This causes my CD collection to be a bit small. Thank god Bad Religion has released to many freakin CDs (they've been around since the early 80s and maybe even into the late 70s...wow..) |

I can tolerate a lot, but I tend to prefer metal. I like progressive metal when the lyrics aren't too artsy-fartsy. Rap and I have had little to do with each other since I sang the battle between UTFO and Roxanne in gradeschool. I'm not big on techno/rave stuff. (IGN reviews of game music made me sick when they would promote that stuff and insult anything with guitars.)
Given, some of this does not show on my mp3.com station, Fool's Turlin. I'm not a huge fan of everything on there, but there is a lot I really like. My cds are mostly Tori Amos, Danzig, Dream Theater, Extreme, Manowar, Megadeath (*sniff*), Queensryche, Savatage, Skid Row, Twisted Sister, Type O Negative, Steve Vai... along with miscellaneous things like Les Miserable and the soundtrack for Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey. (It's not that I don't like more recent music. I'm just broke and refuse to be a pirating bleep.) |
Here's my response from the thread [link], where this first (sorta) came up.
"My WinAmp playlist (which is running almost non-stop) contains mostly industrial/EBM, electronica, darkwave, ambient, 80's goth-rock, classical, and some metal (mostly classically inspired metal, not Metallica crap). You can see my entire (gigantic) playlist here: http://www.geocities.com/abyssdragon/Playlist.html (Favorites are at the very bottom)" -AbyyssDragon |

Its the forth button on the bottom of the Playlist in Winamp (I think its labeled "Misc" in the default skin. In mine its called "ops" so I doubt that helps you.) Click it once, then again, and it pops up in a menu thingy.

I can't for the life of me understand what people's fascination is with wasting so much hard drive space, which could better be spent with tons of computer games. I also can't understand people's fascination with music in general, but that's just me. I think that almost all music is just an attempt at making money, now -- there's no spirit to music any more; it's just bam-bam drums this, or electronic whirr that, or loud-mouthed-obnoxious-moron screaming-into-microphone. But, to answer the thread, my musical preference tends towards Celtic, classical, or electronic/techno. If ANY of them are sung with lyrics, however, the author should be shot -- music isn't about words, it's about music. That's why I don't own a single audio CD, nor do I have a single song from any actual band in any format. My opinions obviously vary from many other peoples', but I state facts about my own, and there's absolutely nothing anyone here can do to change my preference. Yes, that includes forcing me at gunpoint. =P |

I can't for the life of me understand what people's fascination is with wasting so much hard drive space, which could better be spent with tons of computer games. I have a LOT of hard drive space. Besides, most of the games I play don't take up too much space. Also, I just seem to naturally collect things. Its almost like a biological drive for me. I do it with all sorts of things, and I can't really explain it. I think that almost all music is just an attempt at making money, now -- there's no spirit to music any more; it's just bam-bam drums this, or electronic whirr that, or loud-mouthed-obnoxious-moron screaming-into-microphone. I nearly-wholeheartedly agree (would that just be heartedly?). Just about all of the music you hear on the radio, see on MTV or in the stores is this way. If you check out my playlist, though, you'll see that it contains very few bands that get played on the radio and MTV, or get sold in national chains (part of the reason I have so many MP3s and not CDs is that I refuse to pay three-four times the cost of a CD to import it from Japan or Germany (side-side note: why is it always Japan and Germany that have the imports?) when all thats doing is supporting the import companies and not the musicians I like). I like to think my styles of music is different. But, to answer the thread, my musical preference tends towards Celtic, classical, or electronic/techno. If ANY of them are sung with lyrics, however, the author should be shot -- music isn't about words, it's about music. I disagree. To me, music and poetry are intertwined concepts. Granted, I listen to some music with bad lyrics (my favorite example of this is a band called Decoded Feedback who has the oh-so-insightful lyric, "nothing lives after it dies"), but I prefer music to have a message. While I like a lot of the styles of music you do, I couldn't listen to them exclusively. -AbyssDragon |

but I prefer music to have a message. I prefer music to have a message too. Specifically, I want it to have the message "Hey, that sounds pretty cool!" To this end, while I often appreciate lyrics, I don't usually pay them particularly close attention. |

Since there is nothing good on the hub and no one to nag on the pager, so...
ANYWAY, I actually have a strong dislike for music with lyrics or meaning or anything of the sort. Not only do they mess with your thoughts, but they distract you when you're tring to think. I prefer simple melodious music instead, since I can just play it in the background to adjust my mood whenever I need to, usually so it'll fit something I'm writing or creating. |
My favorite is Metallica, Megadeth, Godsmack, System of a down, Linkin park, And last Papa roach

I like too many kinds of music to list them all here, really... I listed a rather short list on a similar thread a while back...but those are just a few favorites I could come up with...
But in all reality...I like just about everything out there... I'm not a fan of rap or country...but there are a lot of examples of each of those genres that I've liked... So really I like just about all music...in varying degrees... What I really look for in music is best described as energy... I like music with a lot of energy... Anything that makes my adrenaline rise is what I'd call "good" music... I don't like love songs for the simple reason that most of them are slow and "weak"... Not a lot of energy in those types of songs...at least not the type of energy that I am after... Due to that requirement...right now I mostly like rock/punk rock and "alternative"... Blink 182, Linkin Park, Nickelback, Puddle of Mudd, etc... And in the past I've been a fan of Nirvana, Pearl Jam, etc... I feel that these types of music contain a lot of the kind of energy that I like my music to have... Lyrics are fairly meaningless to me... In fact, there are some songs out there that I've heard hundreds of times yet suddenly I'll find myself listening to the lyrics for the first time...lol I'll sing along with songs that I enjoy...but that's ususally just due to my somewhat photographic memory grabbing the words and repeating them on a nearly subconscious level... I also don't listen to music for any emotional reasons...outside of the aforementioned need for adrenaline... Music generally doesn't make me feel anything...and I don't use it to make me feel anything...(again...besides an energy spike) However...there are some songs that get an emotional response out of me (The Star Spangled Banner, for instance...nearly brings tears to my eyes out of pride for my country...) But now that I'm thinking about it... I really don't listen to music that much... I've got a rack full of CDs that each haven't been played in over a year (my CD player/stereo is collecting dust and has stuff piled on top of it...lol) I also don't have that many MP3s... Only just over 100 files... By today's standards...that really isn't that much... And most of them are "novelty" songs that I've gotten just out of humor... (like the "Uses of the F Word" recording) And I really never listen to them anymore, either...not even the actual songs that I have in my "collection"... About the only time I ever listen to music is in the car... And I'm not in the car for too much time everyday...so that's not really that much... There's music at work...but it's not exactly stirring...lol I watch MTV and VH1 somewhat often...but as we all know...they generally don't play any music anymore...lol So I'd say that indicates that I'm not really that attached to music... I enjoy it when I listen to it...but I'm not the type who seeks it out or needs it... There are some who can't work on the computer without Winamp going...lol |

Speaking of System of a Down... I wouldn't call myself a fan of their style of music... But for some reason...I can't help but listen to their songs whenever they're on... And I enjoy them...lol
Perhaps they're full of that "energy" that I mentioned in my other reply to this thread... Even though I don't particularly care for the music itself...I just like the high energy it contains... |
