If the VPS is running Linux you simply have to download BYOND's Linux package, unzip it and follow the instructions in the readme file.
|
It does require a bit of Linux experience to get going, and even to run your games after BYOND is installed. You might want to take a wander over to the Linux Guild, there's all sorts of handy information there -- and even a forum to look through and post on.
|
You could look into ATP hosting and BYONDpanel, but I think ATP went defunct and I have no idea what BYONDpanel actually does.
|
I have a trial at byondpanel its actually really good but only allows 1 server per account hosted so thats the crap part
|
You could perhaps talk to the owner of that service. Maybe they can expand your package or help you in setting your own server up.
I personally set Linux servers up to use BYOND all the time (you have to have at least basic SSH access to the server and permission to use BYOND, in the case of VPS you generally have full control over how and what runs on your server), unfortunately I can no longer provide my assistance free of charge. |
I read it and still dont get it.
Like is linux a different operating system. I am running on windows and cant switch now |

I read it and still dont get it. for linux 1. install openshh so u can turn on and off with ur windows. to make a VPS in linux install like XEN or openVZ for a VPS in windows install vmware server you will have to bridge your lan to your Vmware connection. /////////////// for third party linux places SmallGames ( 0 to 15 Players ) MediumGames(15-40) < Before Lag. zenhosting ( Small Games ) NetPrize ( Medium Games ) ( Web Games / Java Games Web Hosting ) Linode ( Byond Medium Games ) ( Web Hosting ) byondpanel ( Byond All Sizes ) |

At the moment I am also looking for VPS hosting ( http://www.ixwebhosting.com/vps-hosting ) but I never heard about byond hosting. I think I will choose IX webhosting because they have the best offer for me personally. Besides this some friends of mine are already using their services and they are very satisfied. There is nothing to complain about. |
I'm not sure how well x10 hosting does, but there is a nice x10 VPS Service package for pretty much any game you could need. I don't know what their reputation is, but the cheapest Unmanaged Package seems like it would do well with several game servers at a time. Not to mention that it's a pretty nice price for this kind of server power. Though if you just have to have an absolute never ever ever lagging server, you can try their Dedicated Servers. They offer a guaranteed slice of CPU just for you. And adding an extra IP for a new server is just $1 extra a month. For projects you want to go really smoothly, this seems like a really great deal. Though I'm no professional on VPS Services, so you guys tell me.

Hi Dj Dovis
BYONDPanel will be implementing 2 slot game hosting soon too busy with life and work sadly this has halted. Of course once completed if you are still interested in this service ill be sure to set you up again. |

Danbriggs wrote: Derp, but if you read the overview, it states resource intensive applications. I've yet to see a BYOND game that was so resource intensive, it couldn't be run off of any Joe Blow's personal computer, much less a specific server. Therefore regular unmanaged packages will work just as well for much cheaper. |

No, it is not any good. If you want lag, buy one.
(I have personal experience for a month with a server. I was at 30 players and the server was already horribly lagging, with their best package they offered me.)
