No, it is not any good. If you want lag, buy one.

(I have personal experience for a month with a server. I was at 30 players and the server was already horribly lagging, with their best package they offered me.)

Ok the can someone answer me on how to set up a vps service to host a byond world?

If the VPS is running Linux you simply have to download BYOND's Linux package, unzip it and follow the instructions in the readme file.
In response to Nadrew
I tried getting linux and follow the readme file but i cant understand it
In response to Dj dovis
It does require a bit of Linux experience to get going, and even to run your games after BYOND is installed. You might want to take a wander over to the Linux Guild, there's all sorts of handy information there -- and even a forum to look through and post on.
In response to Nadrew
Isnt there an easy hosting service like ATP host or byondpanel?
In response to Dj dovis
You could look into ATP hosting and BYONDpanel, but I think ATP went defunct and I have no idea what BYONDpanel actually does.
In response to Nadrew
I have a trial at byondpanel its actually really good but only allows 1 server per account hosted so thats the crap part
In response to Dj dovis
You could perhaps talk to the owner of that service. Maybe they can expand your package or help you in setting your own server up.

I personally set Linux servers up to use BYOND all the time (you have to have at least basic SSH access to the server and permission to use BYOND, in the case of VPS you generally have full control over how and what runs on your server), unfortunately I can no longer provide my assistance free of charge.
In response to Nadrew
Too bad cause for real I have no clue on how to set the servers up or how to even use linux
In response to Dj dovis
He directed you to the Linux Guild.

Read the guide.

for linux

1. install openshh so u can turn on and off with ur windows.
2. make a static private ip in the linux so your router can portforward
3. portforward ports 21 - 23
4. goto http://www.apachefriends.org/en/xampp-linux.html and install that so you can get the FTP or turn on the built in FTP ( depends if you use ubuntu centos or debian )
5. install putty and filezilla on your windows pc
6. login
7. type wget http://www.byond.com/download/build/489/489.1099_byond_linux.zip
8. then unzip 489.1099_byond_linux.zip hit enter then cd byond enter then make here then enter
9. then type source /home/yourusr/byond/bin/byondsetup
10. type cd bin then u upload your dmb and rsc with filezilla to the byond > bin > ( Game folder )
11. in putty you type ./DreamDaemon gamefolder/game.dmb (port) -safe -trusted&

to make a VPS in linux install like XEN or openVZ
for a VPS in windows install vmware server you will have to bridge your lan to your Vmware connection.

At the moment I am also looking for VPS hosting ( http://www.ixwebhosting.com/vps-hosting ) but I never heard about byond hosting. I think I will choose IX webhosting because they have the best offer for me personally. Besides this some friends of mine are already using their services and they are very satisfied. There is nothing to complain about.

I'm not sure how well x10 hosting does, but there is a nice x10 VPS Service package for pretty much any game you could need. I don't know what their reputation is, but the cheapest Unmanaged Package seems like it would do well with several game servers at a time. Not to mention that it's a pretty nice price for this kind of server power. Though if you just have to have an absolute never ever ever lagging server, you can try their Dedicated Servers. They offer a guaranteed slice of CPU just for you. And adding an extra IP for a new server is just $1 extra a month. For projects you want to go really smoothly, this seems like a really great deal. Though I'm no professional on VPS Services, so you guys tell me.

Hi Dj Dovis

BYONDPanel will be implementing 2 slot game hosting soon too busy with life and work sadly this has halted.

Of course once completed if you are still interested in this service ill be sure to set you up again.

Derp, but if you read the overview, it states resource intensive applications. I've yet to see a BYOND game that was so resource intensive, it couldn't be run off of any Joe Blow's personal computer, much less a specific server. Therefore regular unmanaged packages will work just as well for much cheaper.

You stated that the server would 'do well with several game servers at a time'. Run some of the more popular anime games and get back to me about how well it handles it.
