The majority of BYOND games are anime... Will some point in time will that change and have a more games in RPG, Action...ect. Also non-rip or will BYOND continue having a growing population of anime?

That depends with people who actually developes the game... it's not like it's the BYOND staff that makes all these games.

I know but do you think there will ever be a more equal amount of games for each one?

No. But that's because the comparison is illogical to make; tons of separate anime games are really the same single game.
If you were to judge how many truly individual anime games there are against individual non-anime games, my guess is you'd probably find there are actually much more non-anime games. |

Check the front page of the anime guild, those are the original non-alpha anime games. Anything not on the mainpage is either not far enough along in development to be publicized or a derivative of Zeta/WOTS. The front page is meant to help though, and if you compare it to the total number of titles in other guilds it isnt so completely crazy. |
Well, the anime people all get their friends and their friends friends to come and play their game, and most of the other people just keep to themselves. So chances are anime will grow and take over. Unless some big-time anime companies threaten to sue Tom, at which point he will readily ban anyone involved with anime and remove all evidence of it. Then we'll all be saved. Yay!

The better most (if not all) of BYOND's short-turn income will fizzle away faster than you can say "wtf happened when I was asleep last night?" If that happens, BYOND's happy new servers as well as Lummox's pay will probably be too much to afford, and BYOND will either go back to being worked on in the spare time of a developer who isn't at work and not tired of staring at a computer screen all day, or it'll just vanish entirely. Leaving me without any means to occupy my time. |

I'm curious, is it legal to to make games of copyrighted stuff like Naruto, Bleach...ect? If but if it wasn't there wouldn't be BYOND: Anime. =/

The only reason they haven't gone after BYOND Anime is because none of those games stand a chance at cutting into their profits. They're more worried about people hosting and distributing their cartoons. |

If it'll remove the anime trash backed up on the hub, then I hope every anime company threatens to sue him for everything he's worth if he doesn't remove them!

I mean you'd have to hire people to help ban all those dudes, you'd might as well just make a new website. |
Sure, if someone advertises as heavily towards games that have retention value as has been done in the case of Anime. Of course, you have to factor in what appeals to the audience you're advertising to and how easy or difficult they are to draw in / keep.

The thing is, Tom wouldn't be the one getting sued, it'd be people like Masterdan who made the game. He'd get served with a notice to remove the game, or face legal action. BYOND has no control over the type of games made with it. The most a company could do is ask Tom to remove the hub entry for the game. They can't make Tom ban anyone from BYOND, no matter how many lawyers they have, and they can't make BYOND enforce a strict no-fangame policy, anymore than they could force the makers of C++ to enforce a strict no-fangame policy. It's not Tom who would be under the gun, it would be the anime game makers. The sad part is, it would be the good original anime games we'd lose, not the countless rips.

But again the side effect would be BYOND stuck with a population of about less than 100, Tom might even stop its development for many reasons. And please dont use 'original' when talking about an anime game based on an actual anime with its own owners/creator/rights owners. Its unprofesional. |

Anime games would be just as prevalent as they are now, only they'd all be rips. It would be WORSE than it is now, since all the original fan games would have been taken down. People would stop mking new original titles because they'd not want to get sued, so they'd rip instead because then they wouldn't have to invest themselves into the game. They'd have nothing to lose, while creators of original fan games would lose all their hard work, and perhaps some of their money as well. The rips would flourish because even the owners of the franchise wouldn't go after every one of them. The lack of decent anime games would cause a surge of rips the likes of which we haven't seen since Zeta. And please dont use 'original' when talking about an anime game based on an actual anime with its own owners/creator/rights owners. Its unprofesional. No, it's not. |
