Okay here's the deal. My friend wiped his computer, but he doesn't have any CDs to reinstall his sound or whatever, so right now, he has no sound output. Are there any websites with free sound software to get his sound working again? (if it's the driver that isn't existant of course)
When I opened his Sound properties in the control panel, it basically said that there wasn't anything installed for his sound. It was just a bunch of grayed out areas.
Thanks in advance! ^-^
EDIT
His computer is Samsung btw

I didnt know Samsung made computers, anyways what you need to do is go to Samsung's website and they should have a support/download area where you can download drivers.

That's what I thought too, because my computer's a Dell and they have a download updates/drivers section. I went there and didn't see anything for their computer products. Even in their download center page.

Did you try and use the Windows Update page? I get my sound driver from there...
|
Find out what sound card is in the computer, then search for the driver on that companies website.
Either open the computer up and look at the card, or review the receipt or find the 'offer' that was originally bought. |

"Sound Card" is a catch all term for any sound chip. You have sound because you have a sound card built right into your motherboard. This is very common these days, to the point where the vast majority of computers don't have sound cards, but rather integrated sound chips. However, the people who normally talk about these things are so used to calling them sound cards from years past that the name sticks.

Every time I've had a sound problem, it's been the same issue. Go to Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services. Make sure that the Windows Audio service is started, and is set to "Automatic" for the "Startup Type" (so that it starts normally).
If that doesn't help, sorry. And if he doesn't have a sound card or an integrated chip in his motherboard, he needs to buy one. Check his plugs to his audio devices, etc. |
