Get some RAM for heavens sake!
|
Indeed, get some RAM or don't even run Windows XP, why did you install it to begin with, considering your computer doesn't even reach the minimum memory requirements (256 MB) ? :\ And 256 is really not enough either for extensive purposes and nowadays a modern computer always has more.
|
Aside the RAM that computer is a bit better than mine is (not by much). I didn't really count the video either, mine's a 256MB PCI video card that's fairly decent but I rarely make any real use of it. Before the upgrades I made (video card and 1GB of RAM) mine was only better than yours in terms of RAM (256MB initially). Buying a 1GB stick or two of RAM would do you wonders, believe me. They're not too expensive anymore either.
|
Well I don't have any money at all to go and buy more RAM. That is why I have not got more, I would have cause alot of games need atleast 256MB of RAM. Which I don't have.
|
That's a majorly mismatched PC - a P4 with 190mb RAM? If you're looking for a graphics card I have an AGP NVIDIA FX5200 going spare that you can basically have (if I can find it).
I might (big maybe) have some older RAM but like I say, it's a mismatched PC so it's hard to tell what sort of speed RAM you'll need. If you post the RAM speed it'll help track some down. If you can't find it listed anywhere, try something like CPU-Z (google it, it's freeware). |
Well I thank you for offering a graphics card for free. I'll PM you if you ever find it and you could send it or something. I think I will just take some of my RAM sticks from my old Windows 98 which had a lot. Thank you for the reply's.
|
Also, would you check the specs on that PC? According to This website, the Presario motherboard has an ancient processor socket (Socket 7) which doesn't support P4s (only P1s).
Grab CPU-Z and post the processor name and speed, and the mainboard (third tab) manufacturer and model. The RAM speed would also help - top line on the 'timings' section of the Memory tab. |
Intel Pentium 4
2392.6 MHz Hewlett-Packard 0850 S570 Version PQ1B5 and on the ram speed I only see this in the memory tab 256 MBytes |
All that really matters is that it's DDR RAM, the speed and rating don't account for anything. You can toss a 400Mhz DDR RAM stick and a 133Mhz DDR RAM stick together just fine, it'll just clock the 400Mhz stick down to 133Mhz. It also doesn't matter what the maximum speed the board supports is either, like the other case the fast RAM will just be clocked down automatically.
|
On the other hand, we don't want to hand them a PC100 stick if they're running something faster and end up slowing the old sticks down massively.
|
Except PC100 isn't DDR RAM ;). The major difference is the type of RAM (which means the pin count and size of the stick in all reality).

RUN>CMD
Enter on the CMD: reformat c:\ Then go download Lunix Have fun! ~HXR_Wheaties |
Or look up TinyXP. It's a stripped down XP meant for lower-end systems. You can also find the software for stripping down your existing XP installation to remove stuff un-needed.
oh, and Wheaties: Lunix is a *nix-like OS for the Commodore 64- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LUnix Call me silly, but I'm pretty sure it would not run natively on a Pentium 4. :p |
Whoa, you're right, that computer of yours is terrible! I'm in a rather generous mood at the moment, so if you're interested I'll swap you computers? You can see the stats of mine here, just drop me a message with the pager and we can sort things out.
