See that is another problem we have with our idea, we don't want to turn away younger gamers. And as far as being payed, no one would pay a dime until the game is already up and going strong, and again all money goes into hiring more staff and getting better servers and so on. If one coder we hired was not doing his job he would quickly be fired of course.

So try and stick on topic and explain what would make a game so good that you would give your money to the creator so they can spend it on unrelated materials not even associated with the game? If you truly are a fan of the game, you'd make sure that money goes back into that game. |

Okay, you've made it clear that you're not going to pay for any BYOND games. Whatever, your loss. Now stop behaving like an idiot.
I wouldn't pay for any BYOND games for reasons someone else has mentioned: I'm seventeen with no income and no way to pay for anything online. |

I have played plenty of games that were not free and still enjoyed it just as much as those with subscriptions on it.. Proelium, Surreal Dreams, My life as a spy, and some others. All I'm saying is you don't always have to pay to enjoy something. |

Even if the game is free to create, someone devoted a great deal of their time to creating it. Game development isn't easy. Sure, BYOND helps a lot, but making good games is still difficult. |

Come back and try and say that when you are an adult, and mommy and daddy don't buy everything for you. Personally, I had to spend well over $1,000 just to use and make games with BYOND, and to continue using BYOND I have to spend money on a weekly basis. Obviously a kid wouldn't understand things like paying rent and electricity/internet bills (as well as buying a PC), all of which I NEED to even use BYOND, all of which the money has come out of my pocket. Also, saying you wont spend money on a game that didn't take any money to develop and the money you did spend wouldn't be used on the game is a pretty silly thing to say. Know all those "good 3D console games" you own? I am willing to bet that not a penny you spent on them went towards the cost of developing the game, and it all went towards making some rich guys wallet even bigger. :[ Anyway. Like I previously said. All these things are irrelevant to me, I will only pay to play a game when it is good. What it was made with, how it was made, whether money was invested into it's development, what it's graphics are like and so on are all unimportant, provided I find the game fun. In which case I will gladly pay to play it, provided I can (the only games I cannot pay to play are those that only accept credit cards (because I'm not stupid enough to get a credit card)). |

Leave the expensive ventures for the people with lots of money. Build a puzzle/strategy/adventure/action game and you won't need to hire staff or pay for servers. |

There are a good amount of good developed games but still, those games still get boring after a time. Then don't automatically assume it is absolutely impossible that there would be a 2D game that's fun enough for there to be a reason to pay any money for any feature in it just because it's 2D. That is absolutely and undeniably stupid. You still haven't explained to me why I should give my money to creators here. As I've said before, it takes absolutely no money to create these games, so that can automatically tell me the money is not going into the game since it takes no money to make. Firstly, huzzah for redundancy? Secondly, money going in doesn't mean that you should keep all your money to yourself just for that reason. I guess that would mean that if you lived in a third world village, where the farmers in the local market grew plants with irrigation they did for not money, grown from seeds they used from previous seasons (i.e. no money), and carried to the village with no money it justifies stealing the food? The very fact that they put work into it means that they can charge money, and if it is good enough, then it's good enough to pay for. To simply summarize, the amount of money put into a game doesn't relate to the amount of money you should pay for it. Once again, grow up. Just the fact that you would even assume that I graduated high school from using my sexuality is just something I'd expect from someone of your age. No, I made that assumption based on your obvious shallowness. Your belief that money produces a good and fun game, coupled with the fact that the quality of my forum image seemed to (in your mind) relate to my opinion shows that you are an incredibly shallow person, and I wouldn't doubt that a shallow person would appeal to the boner of their superiors to get through life. So try and stick on topic and explain what would make a game so good that you would give your money to the creator so they can spend it on unrelated materials not even associated with the game? Wow, you are bloody thick. I guess that if you gave them money they couldn't, oh, hire a pixel artist to increase the quality of the game's art? A composer to produce good quality music for the game? Someone who is creative that would produce fun and unique missions for said game? The lack of foresight you have is almost unbearable. If you truly are a fan of the game, you'd make sure that money goes back into that game. If you are truly a fan of the game, then everything argument you have made in this post is worthless and dumb. If you're a fan of the game, then obviously the fact that no money went into the game doesn't mean the game sucks. Seriously, do you have any ability of forethought in the least? I suggest you learn how to structure an argument that isn't full of holes before you come back to these forums. It would be best for all of us. |

My thoughts on that is: Who cares what they spend it on? It's not like they're blowing it on cocaine and hookers. If I can pay for the creator's cheeseburger or help him get the latest greatest emo album, then I'm glad to assist in his enjoyment. Besides, the happier the creator is, the more likely they're going to continue developing.
Money doesn't have to be spent directly on the game itself to still be useful. Even if they spend it on useless junk, it's going to motivate them to further develop current games and make new ones. And that's not even considering I'd spend my money just to give something in return to the creators for the hard work they put into a game before-hand, even if they don't plan to make any more. |

I agree, and I agree with Popisfizzy too.
Working hard on a game is no different than working at a burger joint. Its all work. And its only fair that people get paid for their work without anyone else having a say in what that money is spent on afterwards. (Unless of course you're working on a fan-game, in which case you're working out of love for what you're basing the game on instead of money.) |

Well, I do honestly enjoy making games so I wouldn't compare it to a burger joint, but yes, it's still work.

Did I ever say 5 dollars was a lot? I simply stated that it would be a waste of money. And of course you're going to be bias towards this situation, Kunark. You made your certain things in your game, Surreal Dreams, only attainable from buying a subscription.
And please state one good reason why any creator deserves to be paid on here? Keep in mind that your money will probably never get refunded because once they get it they'll use it for some new clothes or anything not even related to their game. The only time I'd donate to a creator is for a shell server, but even those aren't so great all the time.
