I'm thinking of making a game similar to one you would find in RPG Maker XP.

Using the same type of systems (menus, text boxes, battle system, etc.) and grahpics to make a RPG Maker like game, but using BYOND's engine and online-ness.

I think it would be a cool experiment on how well I could clone the RPG maker XP environment, but I don't know if people would actually play it.

What are your thoughts?

I think it would be easier to have thoughts about it if I knew anything of what you are talking about. I've never used RPG Maker, and that your entire description of the game was that it would all be like RPG Maker leaves me with the only thought of the fact that you didn't care to give detail as to what the game would entail.

RPG Maker XP is a game creation tool.
It's interface is really automated, but looks good to the eye.

Hm, the map editor(as I see it here) looks strangely familiar to that of DreamMaker's. And I'm thinking DreamMaker came first. I wonder if Dantom ever copyrighted that, uh, design? :)

Also worth noting is that that pixel art is pretty good, except for the ugly way that the trees are separated from the background, and that there is little variation between things such as plants and trees.

As far as making a project resembling that, if it's within your aptitude and plausible/possible on BYOND, go for it. If, after all, that is your Own Net Dream, who am I to argue differently?

Actually, RPG Maker came way before BYOND.
I want to make an original RPG, but use the same grahpics, audio, design layout, etc. from RPG Maker XP, just to give it that feel of being designed by RPG Maker XP.

I think it would be fun to go in and try to clone the system.
I'm using most (if not all) of the grahpics straight from the RTP (it's the default grahpics and audio that comes with the game).

I have so many ideas to still tinker with!

I used RPG Maker XP once, and making an RPG like that wouldn't be so hard, I think. You're ripping the icons from it and that's fine, seeing that everyone else does it too :P

I think that's a great idea in some ways and not in other ways..

Care to explain?

Most of the RPGs in BYOND seem like they could be able to be made in RPG Maker, except for the text and the multiplayerness..

It's fine to use the icons from RPG Maker if you're allowed to..

The multiplayerness would be great, but the RPG Maker games are just like single-player BYOND games, if you look at it.
