We just started carbon dating in earth science. My teacher told us that often times, they can be millions of years off, simply because with such small numbers, when something leaks out, it causes a huge difference. He says, though, that since the earth is 4.6 billion years old, millions of years are insignificant :P
Also, I don't know why JP (excuse me if someone else said this) said that it can only be applied to organic materials. My teacher said it can only be applied to igneous rocks, and sedimentary rocks are the ones that come from organic means. |
From what I've learned in Chemistry, it can be applied to anything with a high amount of carbon in it. It works well in organic matter because organisms are carbon-based.

If the Antichrist can't die, then how is he defeated? The anti-christ is never really defeated, when Jesus / God comes back down (after the devil's 1,000 year reign?) he will seal the anti-christ in a pit of fire (unlike hell, worse I guess.) and there will basicly be heaven on earth. |
As long as there is both good and evil in mens' hearts, there is always going to be a antichrist or jesus.

A good summary is here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Radiocarbon_dating .
Radiocarbon dating can be applied to both organic and inorganic samples. The key is the presence of carbon 14. I don't know that it ever has a margin of error in the millions- more likely only a few years and this is factored into an equation. Indeed, radio-carbon dating can't accurately determine the age of the earth! (Though it could confirm certain aspects of the planet during the earth's history....) Other radiometric techniques, however, can be used for older samples. The current age of the earth is an estimate based on the oldest samples of terrestrial materials as well as certain meterorite and lunar samples based on radiometric dating. |
I like to think of the Antichrist as like the polar oppsite of jesus and jesus died pretty easy. We beat him and then hung him on a big chunk off wood. Those nails went into his hands and feet pretty easily too.
Bible is crap. I wish I could host a web cam and burn one live just to show you how much I hate them... Maybe the Amercian Flag too...
