Well, they won't get much.
Just the ability to change their clothes colors, maybe a few secret places, minor stuff. Nothing to really make the game unfair.

[May I get a STAFF comment on this?]

Can't you just shove a bunch of money in the envelope and send it?

Exactly! I think people should start making more posts about how great I am.

I don't know if you will get that.

The BYOND policy, as I understand it, seems pretty clear: no compensation for fangames. I don't think anything forbids benefits to BYOND members in games, even fangames.
In response to Jmurph
Problem is, BYOND would most likely get compensation for the fangame.
In response to Scoobert
Perhaps indirectly, but not really. I doubt anyone is paying for BYOND membership so they can have a different t-shirt color in his FF knockoff. But, then again, if I had my way, I'd burninate all these fangames :-)
In response to Jmurph
It's not going to be a 'bad' fangame.

Could Tom please reply on this one?

It's not about whether it's a good or bad fangame, it's a question of legality- and Tom will prolly reply in due course, Flamesage. :)

Don't get your hopes up.

Personally, I'm all for BYOND Members getting special features. In a game, I wouldn't give them extra skills or weapons though. That would knock off balance. I'd give them extra customization things, like for instance, a faded coloured name or some new clothing or something along those lines.

And for those complaining about not having enough money for a BYOND membership. Surf around the member site. I've seen plenty of people offer donations to people they feel needy. I've donated about 14 BYOND Memberships myself.

The only problem I see is, these people complaining will get bitter and start doing the whole:
mob
Login()
if(src.client.IsByondMember())
src << "Member Free Zone."
del(src)
..()

That's granted it's not being done already. Not straying from the two games I inhabit. I wouldn't know.

So yeah, giving BYOND Members bonus stuff is rather awesome. It encourages people to scrounge up the $15.00 USD ($20.00 AUD - about) and reak the benifits of looking awesome with a new... green - teal name? >.>

Well for Final Fantasy Prophecy, most likyly...
- Being able to customize your clothes colors (rgb)
- Accessing a few hidden spots in the game, won't effect storyline any, just cool dungeons.
- Upstairs access in the Town Pub (members area.)

This wouldn't knock off balance any gameplay.
So I think it's a good idea, that will promote BYOND memberships.

I just want to get Tom's premission first.

This is an excellent idea... I think my work on Murder Mansion will go this route...

I was thinking about adding in bonuses for Members, but I didn't want to give anyone any advantages, and I don't want to just hand out character customization (though the next incarnation of MM will likely include character icon options, these will be for all), but tossing in special benefits that apply to everyone playing on a Member's server (like an extra game mode and/or map, or perhaps the ability for Member hosts to set up their own game mode by selecting custom rules), would be perfect...

*Adds it to the List*

Sure, don't reward the people that spent their hard-earned money on a membership, even though the benefits of it are minimal (A blog and a pager... I can download AIM, and open a MySpace for free...) Look at it this way, I could have cared less about the membership priveleges when I signed up.

I'd bet Tom still remembers my membership subscription. Mainly, for one thing, Tom should know me pretty well by now (I used to hang out in the lobby of the Athenaeum every time there was a meeting), and I also have been here for almost... Uh, six years, I guess? That, and I hand wrote a letter thanking Dan and Tom for making and maintaining BYOND...

I bought a membership to support BYOND, why is it disgusting to get an added advantage because you pay for a fraction of the bandwidth you use?

(I used to hang out in the lobby of the Athenaeum every time there was a meeting)

Was that the meeting place of all BYOND staff members or something?
Were you stalking them?
You might be the next Dan! (glances around for Nadrew..)
In response to Flame Sage
It was an online BYOND-based chatting utility for the developers...
In response to Ter13
Why not use subscriptions instead of using the Byond member feature then you make a profit then you can buy me a byond membership :P or a friend one
