Im not sure if this show is on outside of Australia though I watch it and the guy whoever he is levitates. Does anyone know if any of this is true cause it's too hard to believe it.

Well depends on what you want to believe...
There are cultures that believe in the ability to control the body's natural enegery to do such things... Or perhaps eye witness accounts of actual meditation levitation? Either way, you believe or your don't. |
David Blaine (sp?) does that trick right on the street in front of people... As in, standing face-to-face with them...
He's good enough at it (and everything else he does) to fool them even from that close up... However, what he is doing is raising himself up on the tip-toes of one foot... He does it so fluidly that it really does look like he is floating... You can even glance down and see that his foot is off the ground (the one he is not standing on)... I'm not sure what makes people miss that the other foot is still touching, but magicians are masters of misdirection, so he might have a way to ensure that) |

I always wondered how the guy did that, but I could never see. Now I know what to look for the next time I see one of his commercials. |

Aha... There's how it is done in detail... It answers my question about why no one notices the other foot... You're supposed to do the trick at an angle where they can't see it... |

Some of his other tricks aren't explainable at all though, I watch his shows often, some of that stuff he does is just creepy.

Well depends on what you want to believe... Not really. Either it's fake or it isn't. In this case it's an illusionist on TV. Fake, obviously. But the point is clearly to at least inspire the sense of awe and mystery and get people to wonder how he did it. There are cultures that believe in the ability to control the body's natural enegery to do such things... There's a difference between belief and demonstration. Levitation has never once been documented in a laboratory setting, and there would be ample reason to do so. If the mind was capable of causing levitation it would also stand to reason that energy could be applied in the same way to produce machine-generated antigravity. While I know some antigravity research is ongoing, to my knowledge it's not linked in any way to studies of mysticism, but rather to raw physics. In other words, they didn't get the idea to do this by watching someone levitate and saying "Hey, let's find out how he does that." Either way, you believe or your don't. If you're gonna believe something like that though, don't do it on the basis of seeing it on TV. Lummox JR |

As a matter of fact, that may very well be the same magician I saw the trick from in [link] ...of course, I may have confused him with a different magician(who was always masked until he one day took off his mask, a real shocker) when I said he reveals the secrets of his magic tricks at the end. Another thing videos tend to do are edit themselves. They may show a scene where they have they guy several feet off the ground by using cables any normal crowd would see, except the viewers ofcourse, and then splice in some surprised sounds and then show a scene of people looking amazed.
Editing videos can do a lot of things, such as that. They will even use it to make you think they can read many people's mind by only showing the ones they got right. But it is all fake. |

For some reason I can't find it in the TV Guide. Going by the ads he seems to do the same sort of stuff. As for whether this stuff is real, it's not. That's not to say that there's no such thing as magic*, but magicians do tricks. On the plus side when you don't believe in magic this sort of stuff can still be entertaining. Even when you know he isn't really floating you can still wonder how he's doing it. [Update: Ahh. The show is listed as 'Criss Angel Mindfreak'. For more info search for it at http://www.tvguide.com.au It's on Channel Seven around 7:30PM Sunday night. I'm sure the ads called it Criss Angel's Mind Magic.] *I'm yet to be convinced there is, but I don't know everything. =P |

I know the guy who reveals the secrets behind magic tricks isn't David blaine, but David does that trick on one of his street magic shows, and it was explained there, as well...
Actually, I think it was during one of the shows for his more public stunts, like the "frozen in a block of ice" bit... During those specials, in between shots of the spectacle, it shows him doing his other tricks on the street, and that was one of them... |

I remember back in 2nd grade my music teacher would have us watch tapes of this magician on occasion. He would do a trick, and then(breaking the magician's number-one rule) he would show how he did it.
In one of his acts(I'm impressed I remember this), he was out in front of a crowd on a foggy night, and he made it appear to them that he was levitating several inches off the ground. The crowd bought it, but he was merely raising himself onto his toes in a very slow, collected manner.
