Is this true?
Microsoft Windows Vista will require a monthly subscription of $49.95 to use. If the subscription expires, it will erase all data and refuse to boot.
BYOND 4.0 will only be available for use by BYOND Members.

Will vista seriously require a yearly fee?
That's horrible, who will use that piece of refuse? >=[ ~Kujila |

It's not that it's the ethics behind it. I wouldn't even pirate that if it's true.
I would go buy a Mac or just switch over to Linux fully. ~Kujila |
I'm at the site right now and what's claimed of it is absolutely stunning. I expect the new PC to be nothing less than what it claims to be.

I have a friend who installed the beta of Windows Vista on his computer to try it out. Despite the fact that his computer is quite new, he says all the fancy graphical crap made the OS take up 30% CPU while idling.
WHILE IDLING. ^_^ Sure, it's not optimized yet, but still... that's pretty horrendous. I think I'll stick with XP for now. =P Apparently some bits of the interface were really weird, and a lot of the shiny "new" features (like symbolic links, which Unix has had for decades) weren't in yet. It can only improve before release, but first impressions were not flattering. |
I hope your friend is a beta tester, otherwise he is not supposed to be using it. Of course if he is, he's not supposed to be talking about it either :P, people never read what they are agreeing too heh.
Anyway slow downs are to be expected its only beta one of a brand new OS. It will get much faster before release when the debug coding is gone, and optimizing is done. You can’t really have first impressions on something that you should not see yet through, and as it being a very early beta, I would wait to an RC before judging it. |
Let's see, fifty bucks times 12 is 600 dollars a year. Nobody would do it..
Now, I don't think they should specify 4.0 for members. But, as a non-member I do agree that they should have the beta testing before we do.
