What if you allowed the judges to write a short summary (possibly a few sentences) on why they graded the game on what they did and what they like/dislike about it. If the summary they wrote sounds unreasonable and seems as if they only graded it for the heck of grading it or to make their game sound better, then you should call for a re-grade or have someone else grade it. This may be a lot more work than needed but I think it is only fair to give the contestants the grade they really deserve.

So judges have more power if they submit their own work?

Aside from your voting algorithms, I would just like to put up the offer that I will be willing to judge some entries. I'm not biased(to the best of my knowledge).

That's not what I'm going for, though it seems to be an unfortunate side effect of any algorithm.

I figured that's not what you were going for. That's why i decided to bring it up, in the slight case it slipped past ya.

So its 8192 bytes. But is this like the 4k challenge where it counts only dm files to the limit, or are all files counted?

Ahem:
The thing that worries me with the above system is that JudgeB's picks are effectively weighted differently, with more of her allotment going to #1 (2/9 of it) than JudgeA's to his #1 pick (2/11 of his allotment). But these proportions will have to differ anyway, so maybe that part is moot.
It didn't slip past me.

As is clearly stated in the rules, this applies to .dm files. Hence, other files just as in a 4K challenge do not count.

Funny, Ive read that at least twice, and didn't see the first line once. That's pretty bad

I was busy helping someone on AIM(still helping) so I just skimmed through that post. While waiting on a message. Sorry if I skimmed past that part

Just curious, but if we submit a game, but we also want to publish it on the hub, would that be okay/would you distribute the src?

What if we coded all of our objects into text files and then loaded them at runtime? Would the text files count towards the file size?

I don't see how he'd have a problem with you creating a hub entry. Might be a good idea to let people give you some feedback!

Data files, text or otherwise, will not count against you. However for speed I recommend you use savefiles and use some sort of savefile editor, or data stored in the map. savefile/ImportText() is very slow.

I have an idea:

Let's say that there are three judges: A, B, and C. Judge C submitted an entry, while the other two did not. Including C's entry, let's say that there are 10 entries total.

A will judge all 10, B will judge all 10, and C will judge the 9 entries that he didn't make. To fill in for the entry that C wasn't able to judge, you could recuit an extra judge, D, to judge C's entry. D will not judge any of the other entries: he will only judge C's.

In other words, I suggest that you bring in an extra judge who won't be judging anything but entries submitted by the other judges. That way, each judge's vote can have equal power.

The problem then is, you need to fit JudgeD's rankings amongst JudgeC's, unless absolute scoring is used and not a ranking system.

Then use absolute scoring. =P

Like if he wanted to distribute the src, that would interfere with the publishing the game

Absolute scoring still brings up the kinds of problems Aaiko suggested, where a judge's rankings for other games could be too low. I don't anticipate this being a problem, but any system that compensates for low rankings is going to have the same weighting problems I described.

It's the 8k challenge. By the time you're done, you're supposed to submit the ugliest, most un-usable, most un-maintainable code ever. :P
