Why be friendly to strangers? You don't know them thus they shouldn't bother you.

Where do you move to?
On my one trip to the North everybody basically ignored you and would probably walk right through you if you didn't get out of their way...... I don't know about the entire North or the entire South, but based on what I've seen, the South is friendlier. Here (in Memphis at least) when you walk down the street people will nod their head or do a little half wave when you walk by. Normally you can have a little mini conversation with just about anybody (Normally made up of: "How ya doing?" "Good, you?" "I'm fine." and then it will move on to a few of the recent events, one of us will ahve to go, and conversation ended)....If it wasn't for the gangs and crime we'd be a perfect place.... |

Lol. I've had a kangaroo in my living room before....
One of my mom's friends had a friend that worked with animals, and they brought one over. Really weird. |

You think you have a problem, I live in Australia. And for the last time, I do NOT own a kangaroo! Wait, hold on a second here...you mean I DON'T get a free Kanagaroo when I move to Australia!? That's outrageous! Well, there goes my whole point of moving there. Guess I'll move to Germany so I can drive super fast on the Autobahn. =\ |

I don't know what's wrong with you people. When you pass someone by you say howdy, when you want a soda you ask for a coke, even if you don't want a coke, service roads to the freeway are called feeders, and its only natural to leave your house and two blocks away see a field of cows. But then again, Houston is a unique place.

Same thing happens to me. I go somewhere like Colorado and say:
"Hey, I'm from South Dakota!" "Woah...do you know what this is?" The person will point to a TV. "Oh no, I need you spacemen from the future to tell me what a TV is!" It's annoying. |

Then again, maybe Northerners are just anti-friendly to southerners? Did the hat and pick-up tip them off? It's the difference between rural and urban lifestyles. You probably went to a big city up North, and came from a small town down in the South. I live as far to the North as you can get without being in Alaska, and always give people the nod (I don't wear hats) and the "how's it going?" On a crowded street in the middle of a city people will walk right by you, and likely not notice your existance, because the only way to deal with ridiculous amounts of people surrounding you in your day to day life is to become numb to all of them. This gives the impression of aloofness, but doesn't mean that the individuals in question are necessarily impolite. |

read my name
Actually i usually call it soda, rarely ever pop. That just makes me think of crappy music. I don't like being called just 'Pop' on the forums either. |

I've never thought of Canadians as living in Igloo's. I think of annoying accents and guys in red with dorky hats.
I think of igloo's if you mention the Artic. |
The South is very friendly, we don't even have to say ,"Hey", just a simple nod of the head is good enough around here. Tip your hat to a Nothern boy and he thinks you're crazy(Some cases, true). Though I have always been in a everybody knows everybody enviroment.
My adventures up North gave me the impression that Northerners are not friendly, nod your head, no reaction, wave your fingers on your steering wheels while meeting someone on the road, nothing happens. I find that offensive if you won't take the time to be friendly back. :\
Then again, maybe Northerners are just anti-friendly to southerners? Did the hat and pick-up tip them off?
