The demands in messages [link] and [link] have been met. :)
Cool! Thanks. =)
Sweet. Thanks muchly. :)
Awesome! Thanks a lot!
I like the changes, except one which I think was unintentional: Links clicked within a post now appear within the same window. I liked the old behavior of opening a new window a whole lot better.

Hmm, I'm not seeing this. Links inside posts still open in new windows for me (just tested multiple browsers). There's a <nobr><base target=_blank></nobr> tag in the header for this purpose. Message ID: links in the headers still open in the same window as they always have.

I did notice that there was an extra <html><head> within the header, but that's been there since March. I'd be very surprised if it caused any browser to ignore the <base> tag, and certainly that didn't change in this latest update. I changed it now, and maybe that fixes it for you?

Same here however.. at the top of posts when you reply for example "Reply to Message [link]" that opens fine but now if i click [link] whilst in a post it Doesn't open a new page like it usually did. [Post] Also did the same thing but that still works..

The ID: links in the message headers have always had target\=_self in the tags. If they opened in a new window before, it sounds like some strange browser bug - especially if it's working correctly now. Those links didn't change at all.

Well it cant be my browser, I havent updated it at all and it worked a day before the forum update(s).

You mean it didn't work a day before the forum updates, but now it does.

Seriously? They never behaved as if that was the case before. But if it is the case, why so? If other links are supposed to open in other windows, why not id: links? It makes every bit as much sense to open those in another window (so for example you could reference one thread while going back to another) as it does to open other sites there.

Let's not consider that working correctly. The old behavior was consistent; better to go back to what's consistent. I say the target=_self thing was a bug that is only now manifesting.

[edit]
Now I see you were talking about the headers, a distinction ACWraith pointed out for me. Goz however specifically mentioned that id: links inside the body of a post don't open in a new window as they should, which is what I was talking about too. Didn't notice you mentioned headers specifically when I replied. target=_self is just dandy for headers--but id links in a post need to be fixed.

The header links are acting like they used to. They just help the user navigate the current page.

It's the ID links in the body that should open up a new tab/window.

The ID links in the body are the ones I'm on about. Header links are fine.

A bug? Hell no! It seems perfectly consist to me. Internal links open in the same window/tab. External links open in a new window/tab. What's so inconsistent about it?

I much prefer the target=_self behaviour. That's the way it has always worked for me, and I'd get very annoyed if I was forced to open id:blah links in new tabs all the time. Opening pages in new tabs is what my middle mouse button is for.

You guys must just have buggy browsers or something. =P

It's not a matter of internal/external links; it's a matter of usage. When reading the forums, most people are going to want to stick with the forum post they're on while they can open the refrenced one elsewhere. Likewise, any kind of link to a hub entry or such would also be best in another window. When someone's reading the forums and clicking a link included in a post, they don't generally want to lose their place.

But as mentioned, the header links are a different matter and one can safely assume that going to a different post and leaving the current one behind was fully intentional.

Tab schmab, I meant a new window. I'm not aware of any target setting that opens links in a new tab.

Of course, there's always the option of making this a user preference. Then we could opt to have links in posts open in another window, have only external links do so, or open them all in the same window.
