What do you use to make icons? A lot of people use Paint. What do you use?

I agree with ease, the icon maker in DM is a lot better then paint, it has everything. Rather then pain, which has that and a bunch of extra stuff you don't even use/need/want.

Yeah, but so many people say 'Paint Shop Pro' is so much better. I don't get why. I have it, and tried using it and had a very hard time. --Dan |
PSP is for people that can't use PS7 to its full effect.
Use the icon maker in DM, ignore them, they don't know what they're talking about. |

(And don't tell me about Elements. I know about it, I just don't like it. Although I'll take it over Paint (UGGGGGGH!) any day.) Or who like to use the right mouse button for drawing using the background colour. Or... the list goes on, but I'll refrain from continuing so this thread doesn't turn into ANOTHER Photoshop versus PSP war. I agree about the Paint thing, though. Why would you use Paint when you can use the icon editor?! *shakes head sadly* Silly people. |
The only advantage Paint would give you is being able to make larger icons, without having to make them tile by tile. Other then that paint is good for a few laughs at school messing around with it >)

What?! You mean you don't use a hexeditor to draw images? Geez, some people... Next you'll be telling me you don't program in machine language!!!

Well, I do like to use paint when I am doing a bit larger icon, and then I just tile them up into DMI files. But I think most people still just use the DMI to make larger icons though.

I attempt to use paint shop pro all the time, because when people use it the icons come out so good I can't resist! What do you start with? The pencil?!

It allow for multiple undos Yeah... like, three of them. Oh how useful. =P Unless of course you're talking about an upgraded version which Windows 98 doesn't have. zooming in/out At the amazingly varied levels of 100%, 200%, 400%, and 800%! Now that's choice. =P The icon editor displays previews at 100% and 50%, and lets you edit at... well, I'm not sure how big the zoom is on that, but it's large. =) That's plenty for me. And you don't even need to switch tools to do so! it has an airbrush tool Point conceded. Not that I ever use the airbrush tool. In anything. =P and there's something about copying and pasting that I like better about Paint than DM. Well, guess what? There's something about copying and pasting that I like better in DM than Paint. So we're even on that score. =) And, Ive used Paint more than DM, so I'm more used to its interface (not that either program is particularly complicated). I find Paint's interface to be clunky. The icon editor isn't exactly streamlined either, but at least you don't have to pull down menus all the time. That's why us silly people use Paint =P You said it, not me. ;-D |
It is good in some cases. If I want some text, or I'm making a large graphic (like a title screen), then those are features that DM doesn't have. Plus it has unlimited undo/redo, which is occasionally useful.
For 32x32 pixel art, though, the icon editor rules all. :-) |
I use paint only for multitile mobs. Else, even though paint is easier, I don't like transfering them.
|
Yes, the icon editor does rule ^^;.
And i'll agree, (On PS7 anyway) that the unlimited undo/redo is very useful, specially for me. |
