I don't believe the servers will allow you to connect to them if your running on a 56k. If I recall correctly it will only allow broadband users to connect on the PS2 version, not quite sure how all that works out though.

My friend got it for ps2, he is liking it. He plays it over at his house with a usb keyboard and it is almost exactly the same as the PC version(even the controls). He is barrowing the keyboard from me, but it is just a standard usb keyboard. The game looks mostly the same, he loads a little faster than i do though. Even though he has 56k, he can play it at home almost as fast as i can. He said he never notices lag, even on 56k. Nothing beats when he brings it over here though, we play in the same room, we can kill so much at once. He is already a lvl 7, close to 8(in 2 days, thats really fast, and the fact that only about 4 hours of those 2 days he was playing). So all in all, if you dont have a good enough pc for FFXI, but still want it, go ps2, you will hardly notice a diffrence if you buy a usb keyboard for your ps2(the mouse isnt used anyways).
