Well it was long ago.. back in 98.. when I stumbled accrost tihs website, I clicked it, I was like WOW an online game maker, but when I tried it out I was sooo confused, so I left, a year later (99) I tried it agian and I loved it!

(Note: My first key was delted due to inactivity) (thats when dantom cared) =)
I am an oldbie, but I dont get recognized for it
Actually I think the website wasn't put up until mid-99, not 100% sure on that, though.

well anyway, it was like November 98 when I joined so it was close enough to 99.
(note: Was there only two layouts?)
and when was it called dung? Before 98?

It was called DUNG until 2000, and there was a dark "BYOND" layout (a few of the same type actually), after the DUNG layout, but before this one. This layout has been around for around a year.

I was here for the old BYOND layout (which I loved, cried when they changed it. Wish they had a choice if you want to view the old or new one. ;) ) And before BYOND.Raw became BYOND.UnpublishedGames, infact, before there was even BYOND.Raw

I remeber the days before byond.raw. I remeber the old colors, i liked them, but i am very fond of the new theme. I do not, however, remember dung. A few months before my time i suppose.

I found byond though luck i suppose. I ran into this Pokemon red rom mod. It made fun of pokemon and was fun to play. I went to the creators site. It was CoolBoyMan. There, i signed up for his forum and started talking. I dropped out of his forum for a few months, came back, and it was a DWO fansite. After figuring out what DWO was, i then learned about byond, i played DWO for a while, then went on to some DBZ games, and well, i just went to 2 or three, and didnt seem to get the same impression, that byond is made for dbz games. I then desided to make my own game. It was actualy going to be based of a game i made in RPGMaker2000, but it ended up nothing like it. And from there i have been a slightly productive memeber of the byond community.
My friend Pmac found the DWO website on google. It took him a month to find out you need to use BYOND to play. He liked it, and I'm a semi-DW fan, so he sent me BYOND (I had a virus at the time and couldn't download zips or exes.) and I really liked it. Looked at some tutorials and the rest is history.
DWO, i was going through a rpg phase(like it was all the rage) i surfed the web and found DWO. POOF! im on Byond now

I actually remember pretty vividly. It was when I was a victim to the Dragonball fad (Shirts, posters, cards, you name it..). I think I was playing SNES Dragonball Z roms. I got tired of them, and then searched "Namek" on Google images for the hell of it. And a bunch of game screen shots were there. It was DBZ Spar, unfortunatly, it wasn't being updated. But, it linked to BYOND. Yeah, the black layout of BYOND was cool..Like someone else mentioned it would be nice if you can choose a layout version to browse the site.

I too came here through the DBZ: SPAR site. I was tired of DBZ text MUDS and wanted an online graphical network, so I typed it into Yahoo, and SPAR came up, thought...hmmm, this looks cool. Of course, it was out of development, but found the link to byond.com.
I was playing a text MUD a few years back and somebody had mentioned BYOND, so I checked it out, and shabam, here I am a few years later.
I joined in October/November of '01...

I'm the co-founder of a Yahoo DB/Z/GT group (it was still a Club back then), and we have a rather strict "No Advertising" policy on the forum (links can go into our links page, but all non-relevant advertisement posts are deleted on sight)...

Anyways, one day, I was doing my usual check for spam posts, and I came across one that was advertising this place...

Generally, I just delete the offending post right away, but on things that sound like they might interest me, I check them out beforehand (I still delete the post, but I at least click the link)...

And that's what initially brought me to BYOND...

Why did I stay? Well, simply put, it seemed like the perfect system for a project I'd had in mind for a couple of years... Of course, that project eventually developed into DBTC, my first and largest BYOND project...

The battle system (and general PL rating system) for DBTC was devised back in '99 as a "pen and paper" battle system for use over IMs and forums... A few of my fellow DBZ fans and I worked it all out and were trying to start up some sort of league of "fighters" over the net through Yahoo Clubs...

Soon after its birth, I wanted to get some sort of automated stat handling program set up... Just for convenience in not having to actually use a pen and paper to keep track of things while playing...

But at that point, the only programming experience I had was making a few small things on my TI 86 scientific calculator (they use BASIC, don't they? I forget)...lol And obviously, that wasn't going to do me any good...

So that dream sat on the shelf until I stumbled into BYOND... And the rest is, as they say, history...
Yeah, um, well my appearance on the BYOND-scene could be somewhat accredited to the lovely magic of DBZ:NN.

I dont really remember how I came across byond. I think I was searching for "online games" or somthing like that.
Uhhh, however long it was ago, one of my friends said I couldn't make an online game. I tried everything I knew, when one day I just searched 'online game system' in yahoo and *ping* there was BYOND!
How did I find Byond, hmm.

Well, pre-Byond my favourite "hobby" was MU*ing. I started out on TinyTim, around 1992, I think, it's been a while. Anyway, I spent most of my time, setting up muds, coding and writing so many room description's that I could have compiled my own Book 100 times over.

At some point I got involed in some graphic muds, and then ended up being an Implementor on The Realm Online. After that was taken over by Codemasters, I went back to mudding; Seeing that I was used to graphics, I searched the net for some capable engine. I ran into Crystal Space and finally into Byond.

Since, then I've been here. O.o

C'est La vie.

Your not alone.
Unlike all you people that found BYOND from a DBZ game I found it because of Dan's old rogue-like game night soil since because of that DUNG was mentioned on the Rogue-like news page :).
I was looking for something that would allow me to build online applications easily.

Guess I found it.
