"And also ther is no good music in ther enyways! " Have you ever used Kazaa? Well, you said you don't use Kazaa, so how do you know? The fact is, you don't. When I buy a CD, I instantly make MP3 or WMA copies of the songs on my PC so I don't have to switch CD's every five seconds. No, I do not share these files with others through a peer-to-peer software program such as Kazaa, but millions of people do. The statement "ther is no good music in ther enyways" holds no truth, nor does it seem to hold correct spelling or anything else for that matter. Kazaa has (or rather the users using Kazaa have) a massive amount of files being shared on every supernode. Not just MP3's and other music files, either. Full movies (DVD Rips, movies recorded with camera from theaters, etc), full PC games and other PC software, free images, and free just about everything else.
So, don't tell me "ther is no good music in ther enyways." ~Kujila |

Yeah, I heard the RIAA actually searches your home and punishes those involved. They also get nice surprised looks on their faces if you happen to be a Mac user. They only get warrants because the U.S. government REALLY dropped the ball with the DMCA. Sure, let's give rights that only the police force should enjoy to any corporation with a hint, hunch, or grudge! Let's make it so that they don't need any shred of evidence, unlike the police who would need a warrant signed by a judge, too! Court clerks are so happy they get to play judge for once. |

Kazaa lite k++, is whats illegal, kazaa lite is just kazaa without ads, but with the spyware included still.
Smart people use kazaa lite because its basically offering a way to be protected from those idiots trying to sue you for downloading bytes or megs, or more. I use kazaa for downloading j-pop, as i cannot get the CD's in their proper condition here in this crappy country (America, ^^;). But, as soon as i leave this country (Thank god.) I will of course stop using kazaa, infact, i haven't used it for awhile now, mainly because i already have my 200+ j-pop songs from every single band i love, but some of the songs in kazaa are still pinged, so eventually i start it up just to resume them and keep it up for the night so some more can dl. But i don't fear anything, theres hundreds of other people worse then me, so i really don't care. Summary: People use kazaa to get things they probably or normally cannot buy, recieve in the country they are living in. Or software, which i personally did download PS7 (Hey, i personally don't have the moeny to buy it, and i don't even think its worth that much, but i still love it! ^^;), OR they could use it for kiddie porn, whatever works for them, not me thank you! ^^; Oh yeah, Viva la revolution ...uhm..to my return, hah. |

Kazaa Lite++ is no more illigal than all the other kazaas. And maybie you cant buy any J-Pop in America because J-Pop sucks, not America. Anywho, although i have kazaa on my computer, i rarely use it. And i never buy cds(and never had, even before the time of napster).

you can't use the music or concert thing like that though, mainly because one 14 dollar ticket isn't going to make a differnce to their millions of dollars, i just see whinning here.
And fast food for free? Wow, more power to you. I don't think people see it as stealing, i think they see it as " Wow, i just got in free without paying, what lucky." "Heh, i just ripped burger king off, and now i get free food -chomps or what not-, I am so cool, i stole from burger kind, hehehe -crashes into the back end of an SUV-" Totally differnt situations. Besides, it would be too obvious if "Everyone" got into a concert by using deception, i don't think there is a guard stupid enough to fall for that. And i'm sure burger king called the cops, so it doesn't even matter. But yes, i would think the second is stealing, the first is just luck. |

Obviously those $14 DO matter, because if they didn't, why are they selling CDs at all?

Well, obviously others buy them...i was trying to say that one 14 dollar ticket, or cd, isn't going to make a HUGE differnce on their millions of dollars already.
I mean, just because no one is buying the cd in your state (Purhaps) that still leaves 49 states, where they could be making uppers of 500k. Understand? |

You don't seem to understand that this is a widespread thing. If a cd is going for 14 dollars a cd and the record labels are expecting to make 14,000,000 dollars off of it, but the 1,000,000 people expected to buy it download it all off of Kazaa then the company gets no profits in return. In fact they lose money through packaging and production costs then. You see, you are not the only person using Kazaa to obtain liscensed products, millions of others are too. So that 14 dollars DOES make a difference.

Can you blame the record companies? Studio time is very expensive now and a lot of music companies face a lot of lawsuits and what not. Dealing in the entertainment industry isn't an easy thing to manage, although they have gone a bit to high on prices. If they would minimize cost it would maximize the amount of buyers, so therefore they might not be making as much profit, but they would be overall making more money most likely since more people would buy.

The question isn't, "How much does the stealing matter?"
The question isn't, "Do the people stealing think of it as stealing?" The question is, "Is it stealing?" If you have anything to say that will show that it's not stealing, that's fine, but saying it's not stealing because it's not enough to matter or it's not stealing because the people doing it don't think it is just doesn't wash. "Judge, I did't steal $10 million dollars from my employers. I borrowed it. I took it without asking. But I didn't steal it! And furthermore, we had a revenue stream of 1.4 trillion dollars, so it's not like they'll miss it." "Oh, okay. Case dismissed." |

Let me get this right. 0 cents for the maker is better then 8 cents?
Also a lot of record companies aren't jerks. They simply have to do more now to release an album. It's a lot like video games, they used to have small teams working on them, now they have large teams of teams. Naturally it is going to cost more. I'll admit a lot of the companies aren't doing it out of the goodness of their hearts, but the bands shouldn't be made to suffer because of it. Mrhat99au wrote: The record companys are ass holes and want us to pay $30-40 for a cd, and they wonder why people use file sharing, todays people cant just fork that sort of money over, just for 70 minutes of music. Most people who download music illegally wouldn't pay $5 for an album. The "they charge too much" arguement is just an easy way for a lot of people to justify their actions. Like when someone shoots a criminal they can live with it because it was a criminal. I can't afford a BMW, that's no reason to steal one. |

And now the foolish attempts at copyright protection has started another entanglement of legalese, and cd prices will probably double, and people will pirate even more! Actully that most likely isn't true. Think back when Nintendo Games cost $70-80.00 a game. Now come back today, it must take more work to make todays video games, but even with all the possibility of piracy, the games prices have dropped since then. I admit to downloading game, movies and music from the internet. I don't care really. Its free, and I like free. Especially with some of these Name Brand PC products that cost $400.00! Did you know our school paid $400.00+ for some cheap home building program for our Core classes? It looks like it took less time to make then making a cheese sandwhich, yet for some reason, people feel compled to charge this much for something. So I wanted a copy, what do I do? I burn it. Don't get me wrong, if I can pay for something I will. It takes me 4+ hours to burn an almost flawless DVD, Id rather spend 20 mins at the store and BUY the damn DVD, but if I can't afford it, Ill just rent it and burn it. If I can afford that new game for my PS2 Ill buy it, if I can't Ill burn it. I would almost always perfer the orginal media then a back up, but when I can't afford it or find it, Ill take what I can get. I have no excuse for what I do, I do it, and I know its wrong. And FYI, these P2P programs are NOT illegal. Thats like saying Mod Chips for video games are illegal. They are perfectly legal, its all how you use them. There are 100s of freeware, share ware music, movies and games on Kazaa, Win MX and more. |
