It's kind of like Diablo, but free and massivly multiplayer. It's still in pretty early beta so it's gonna get alot better and it's already pretty good. See, now you can't say all I do here is bug the hell out of you.
Except I've already seen at least 2 or 3 people post a link to that game on the forum already :P

Sorry, but your just a bit late.

Not this time... the only flaw I'd say it has is that theres no quests or anything, yet. And theres not that much variety in monsters, but like I said it's still early beta and it's only getting better.

Don't mind Garthor, he just hates MMORPGs.

So Garthor, how many MMORPGs have you actually played? I hear Star Wars Galaxies is pretty good.

I know the answer! False!

SWG has been pretty trashed by reviewers. Whether you enjoy it depends on what you are after. It is, bar none, the best crafting/trading game out there. It allows great customization of your character. It has a very nice level advancement system.

They have a reasonably unique thing for mainstream MMOGs of allowing you to create your own town, with a mayor, police force, taxes, etc.

The combat is odd and frustrating...but can be reasonable once you learn it.

But, right now, it's not much of a *Star Wars* game. It doesn't really feel like that universe. That's changing though, now that players have figured out how to open up Jedi slots and mounts have been added (both animals and vehicles).

I think it has a lot of potential and am keeping my account for now, though I haven't played in a while.
On the page it said it requires a Voodoo gfx card, which I don't have. (Radeon series card)

Is it compatible with other brand-name [NORMAL] cards, or is it 3dfx specific?

From what I've heard, the game was released too soon. At the time of its release, a lot of features weren't working, and some rather important ones still aren't (though they may have been recently fixed, but last I heard they were still broken). Also, I've been told that its great for roleplaying, at least compared to some other MMORPGs.

It'd be really stupid of them to limit it to 3dfx cards, especially as 3dfx isn't manufacturing video cards any more. =P (Didn't they go bust or something? I forget exactly.) I'm sure a Radeon would work just fine.

Ya I have GeForce2 and it works fine for me.

3dfx went bankrupt and Nvidia promptly bought them out, and cancelled any future support for all 3dfx cards(we're left with 3rd party drivers from then on), thus ensuring that anyone with enough money is going to go buy a new Nvidia card. I hate Nvidia. I just want some freaking DX support for my 3dfx card.

I had no clue that you could develope your own town.... I myself bought the game a few months ago to play on the free trial, but I found out that the trial required you to subscribe for at least month(So it was basically buy one get one free.). I took a look at the guide, and yes, the combat does seem senselessly frustrating. It looks like a great MMORPG if you minus the fact that everything is so customizable it seems frustrating. I'm all up for customization, but geez, it's filled with so many options that in order for the manual to explain it all they have it set as a thick notebook.
Whenever I try to download the main executable setup file (or zipped setup file), I get only about 2kbs,... for that big of a file, that's insane. It would take 10 hours to download! :)

Has anyone managed to track down some mirrors of this file?
