if someone could elaborate on easter? I remember hearing a friend tell me about how the real reason easter has anything to do with eggs and bunnies is because they were using it as a propaganda tool to spread christianity to the pagans (or something like that). I heard it from a friend who took introduction to christianity in college... is it a myth or is it true?

buddhism was more of a lifestyle then a religon When does a religion stop being a lifestyle and become a religion? Is it when it starts preaching about the "only true God" (or whatever) and trying to convert people en masse? =P but it had stupid things in its doctrine like the earth was on the back of a giant turtle, so that religon was out too. That's just what they believed at the time the religion was created. The Bible says that Moses parted the waters, and that Noah built a big boat and somehow managed to fit two of every single species on the planet onto it, in order to survive a flood. Just because it has a couple of bits in it that sound ridiculous to us today, does that mean you can reject the entire thing? I'm not impressionable by anyone, if you knew me, which you don't, you would know that. You do seem to radically change your world view every day or so. That, to me, would suggest that you are somewhat impressionable on occasion. |

Thats why you should of walked out in a catholic school uniform one day while blasting ACDC, that would be interesting to see what they would have done.(Especially if it was one of ACDC's more risky songs about having extremely large privates, or perhaps using poker as a reference to sexual activity.)
Ooooh, she's got the jack! |

Life does have a purpose, because nothing exists without purpose. ...says the book written over 2000 years ago. Jesus did exist you know, but I guess you just think he was a crazy man right? Where did all the stories from the past come from? Eh? Oh, in that case then, I believe in the Force. After all, if it doesn't exist, then where did all the stories about Jedi come from? Eh? But I do believe that the Almighty created us for so many reasons. Woo, contradiction! If he's omnipotent, then why would he need to create anything at all? Creating things (whether out of nothing or from something else) is purely in order to satisfy a desire, no matter what. I may desire to eat food, and thus I would make bread. So, logically, there's yet another contradiction in your "flawless" religion. 1. we are special as a species and our place on this planet is most unnatural, just as god has said in the bible that he has given us dominion over the earth, so it was. How is it unnatural? Fossil records can track humans back to when they were monkeys. You're obviously suggesting that either God (only capitalized because it's a name, not out of respect) didn't create humans, or that evolution doesn't exist. 2. i can't believe that the universe just existed one day. that lacks sense and reason. physics can't explain it, and scientists themselves have said that it takes more faith to believe in that then in god. Where did God (Once again, not out of respect) come from, then? 3. there is supernatural stuff in the world, and while you might disagree and think that everything is explainable, some things just aren't explainable, because the earth is older and more mysterious then man will ever know. You are not qualified to make any statements on everything. You saying "some things just aren't explainable" is ludicrous. You'd need to be omniscient to know that, and you aren't. Also, Earth is approximately 4.5 billion years old. Source i could go on and on, but i respect the fact that god gave you free will and you can choose yourself. i only ask that you give me the same respect i give you. but of course, it's still your choice. Free will is an illusion created by the inability for the human mind to comprehend everything all at once, thus preventing us from seeing into the future. My belief is that the universe is determinate in that there is nothing random, and thus, everything has already been laid out. However, it is very hard (or impossible) to prove or disprove this, and thus, I will leave it out of the conversation. I ask that you give me the same respect that I give you, and leave anything that cannot be proven or disproven out of everything you say. That includes your stupid religion, and your fat mamma. |

Getting Garthor to give anyone respect would be miracle enough to serve as concrete evidence of the existence of a higher power. Nah, you'd just need to be smarter than me, non-religious, done something amazing, and various other qualities I can't put my finger on. It's not THAT hard. I mean, 0.5% of the population already has me beat on that first part! |

This is the catch-all clause so that you never have to give anyone any respect, right? =P It's not THAT hard. I mean, 0.5% of the population already has me beat on that first part! Perhaps I can shed some light on the perplexing issues raised here.
Oh, in that case then, I believe in the Force. After all, if it doesn't exist, then where did all the stories about Jedi come from? Eh? They are from the Koran. Christian theology, at least the non-postmodern kind, is pretty unanimous about the idea that God has desires. Whether that raises a contradiction, I can't say; maybe you've discovered a glaring flaw that Augustine, Aquinas, Anselm, and the other twenty-five letters of the alphabet never considered. How is it unnatural? Fossil records can track humans back to when they were monkeys. They finally found that "missing link", eh? Good on 'em! Where did God (Once again, not out of respect) come from, then? Maybe God invented causality. You are not qualified to make any statements on everything. You saying "some things just aren't explainable" is ludicrous. You'd need to be omniscient to know that, and you aren't. Okay. All things are explainable. That includes your stupid religion. That would be so much more classy if you added "and your fat mamma." |
