Many have questioned, why do we dream? Why do we dream about something one night, and something completely ironic the next night? Why are dreams so infuential? I had a dream that my sister shot me one night and I went to her bed side getting ready to strangle her, until my mesmerisation subsided and I realized it was a silly dream. I mean I was going to kill her. How does ESP tie into dreams? There have been countless reports of supernatural occurences in dreams. Are they the gateway into another dimension? If so, how and will man be able to harness this power? Are mastery in dreams the first step to ESP in the real world? Do dreams tell the future?(As I have had an experience with that before.)
I just want genuine thoughts on peoples' experiences with dreams and thoughts. Remember this:
The first step to mastery in the lands of sleep is the realization, without waking, that one dreams. In the day worlds, mastery begins by forgetting, without dreaming, that one is awake.

Well, i think we dream because our mind has nothing better to do, and people(normally) who are least satisfied with their life have the most remember-able dreams. I only have around 8 dreams in my life that have lasted in my mind more than about 1 day. Why, i think that is because is am content with my life, and very happy to live it. But my friend who is a pessimistic depressive is always talking about dreams he has and remembers them for a very long time. I think that for some people dreams are a way to get out of their normal lives and feel power of control over themselves. Now this is just my idea behind dreams, but i have no degree saying i know what i am talking about, just personal experience.

Well, as for ESP tied into dreams, I wouldn't immedtiately dismiss the idea, however, just about anyone else will. This is because i have a theory that, If humans were able to use more than 10% of their brain power,(10% is the average usage) possibly, possibly we can do more. For instance, Einstien is the smartest 19th-20th century person. Even if he only used 20% of his brain power, (which is a little amount compaired to what his brain could have used), he would still be twice as smart as the average joe. At most he used 30%.
Our race as a whole have created machines and used our environments to make machines that practically master physics(not quiet master yet). This has been done on pure calculations and thought processes in the mind. I'm sure once our mind is used alot, say, 60% and higher, calculations and thought processes on a normal level will be mastered, only leaving room for ESP, or anything else really. We will most likely never know for along time, seeing as history repeats itself, the human race will either be distinguished or endangered before we can keep records and progress far enough to reach a high point of brain usage. |
I remember a dream last night. I was at my uncle's house, and my dad's Chevy Silverado was parked in the driveway. He asked me, "So, when are you going to be allowed to drive by yourself?" and I responded, "I can already drive by myself. My license is just a basic provision that will make me lose my license if I have any alcohol, even below the legal limit, that's all." So I go to get in the cab and drive the truck out of the driveway, and it has something like five gearshifts, with gears marked in terms of horsepower instead of numbers. I ask him what the heck's going on, and he says, "Put it in Drive!" and I look down at the panel and there is no drive gear. Finally I experiment and switch the truck into 70 horsepower, and the truck launches forward. I hit the brakes, but it still nudged the side of the house. "Dammit!" I lamented, then leaned out the window and commented, "I think I'm going to stick to my car."
I have no idea what it meant. |

People seem to think that using more brain power will allow you to unlock hidden powers. Think about it, if this "you only use 10% of your brain power" stuff is true, which Im pretty sure it isnt, wouldnt your brain just get faster/more efficient.
Its like saying that if we made a processor 100x more powerful then the current fastest model it would automatically become self aware. I'm not saying that ESP and the like are impossible, but a lot of it is just fantasy (We want to be able to float with our mind, so we convince ourselves its possible). |
I always have dreams about random stuff from during the day, then promptly forget exactly what they were a few minutes after waking up. Which seems to agree with the theory that dreams are just your brain sorting out all the stuff that's happened during the day.
Remember, not everything has to have a purpose; it's quite likely that dreams are just random side effects (or perhaps even a necessary part) of this sorting-out process. As it's not necessarily detrimental, the characteristic of having dreams never got "evolved out". Just like the "xiphoid process" (the jutting-out point at the bottom of the sternum; it's completely useless, and even dangerous if it somehow breaks off). |

I've had dreams since I was in grade school of being in an out of control car. Most of the time, I'm alone. I'm never scared about getting hurt. I'm more worried about causing damage to people and property.

Amongst my real-life friends, i am a real pessimistic depressive type person, but the only dreams that i remember are when they actually happen in real life. Like when it actually happens, i remember dreaming about it a few years before. but other than that, i dont really dream much, or at least i dont remember those dreams.

Also, we only use 10% of our brain for thinking because the rest is used for other things, if we used more, our memory or senses would lessen. For some reason people dont realize that.

I believe in god. he knows how mischevious humans are and how they seek to use power. I believe he only allows us 10% for a certain reason. You all have heard the story of Harry Hudini(spelling?). He was doing a stunt and was under the ice in freezing water. He became lost and was loosing air and body heat. His mother, who was at the time on a hospital bed awaiting death and Harry did not know this, seemed to be calling him. His mother was dreaming. He heard a strange voice. Chanting soflty, "Harry..." "Harry...". He followed the voice and and sure enough it led him to the exit onto the top of the ice. When the reporters came to harry after he emerged from teh frigid waters they asked him, "How did you find your way out?" He replied, "I heard my mother's voice calling me. Later on he discovered his mother was in the hospital. He found out that when she was dreaming, she was chanting, "Harry...." "Harry...."

Dreams are weird....
I've pretty much noticed that you can't die in a dream. Maybe it's like the Matrix......your mind makes it real, so you have to wake up before you die. Another thing thta may sound crazy, is I've dreamed about something that actually happened the next day. Happen to anyone else? <-Airjoe-> |

Of course Airjoe. I've had a dream I fell off a telephone pole and hit my arm on concrete and it hurt! Like it was real. After I woke up, my arm was hurting. I'm not implying anything, but it makes you think..

How weird... I had the exact same dream... except my body was regenerated during that dream. Also, what I've heard, if you can see yourself die in a dream, you have mental problems. Or something along those lines.

So there goes that theory. ;) Another thing thta may sound crazy, is I've dreamed about something that actually happened the next day. Happen to anyone else? I haven't had one like that, no. On the subject of dreams.. Usually when I'm dreaming, I can wake myself up. Just last night I had a nightmare, and I couldn't wake myself up like normal. Alot of times, when I'm in a dream, I usually REALIZE it's a dream and I start doing strange things (Such as throwing fireballs, or something like that). When I don't realize it's a dream, it's just like real life. Dreaming is a very interesting subject that I'd love to explore. If only there were a device that could record dreams, so you can go back and examine them later. (When I was little, I thought it'd be cool if you could 'invite' someone into your dream.. I still do, actually. :P) ~>Volte |

Well I don't know about you guys, but I almost never dream. 99.9% of the time, all I remember is laying down to 'rest my eyes'.. the next thing I know, its the next day (or that night :p).. Though sleeping has never been something I liked to do..

People tend to not remember dreams. It's possible you have had some, but can't recall them once you wake up.

I personally think that dreams are VERY different for every person. So you are ALL wrong, and you are ALL right!
I am quite different to the people that have posted so far! I CHOOSE my dreams, whatever I want to dream about, I dream about! I have never died in a dream, although many times I have been in a situation split seconds from death, when I decide to change to a different dream. I have never wanted to die in a dream, because I was told when I was very young (and it probably mentally affected me) that if you died in a dream you died in real life, so I am always very cautious :P ~GokuSS4Neo~ |
