Cause they pruddy.
Doesn't Windows tracert do this? (Open a command prompt, type "tracert ###.###.###.###")

im having alot of people trying to hack my comp, and if i can get there ip, and trace it... ya know?

And ya know... most likely if anyone is hacking your computer they will bounce the connection, and also be able to detect your trace and close the connection before you get close.

well i have neo trace pro 3.25 , if i have an ip adress already, how do i get the location of it, i can only get mine

An IP address is quite literally the address of a computer on the internet (or indeed any network). Please explain what you mean by the "location" of an IP address.

He means where the IP address is located in the world. Say my IP is 128.4.6.3. My address is 43 Blab road. If he typed my IP into the tracer, it would find my address.

IP addresses aren't nearly that exact, unless of course they're static ones. Usually the closest you can get is a general area (some IP ranges are reserved for certain geographical areas, etc.)

exactly what crispy said... i have neo trace pro 3.25, is that any good, in what i need?

Radditz, what you need is this; Visual Route IP Tracer.

If you enter an IP Address into the IP Tracer section, and search for a valid IP Address, the tracer locates the clients computer within the world.

Technically, you enter person a's IP into the search, you search for person a's location, it searches through server locations situated in the world as to the ones that person a had to connect to to get online.

So, you see a map at the lower section of the program and it shows a line going from start to finish. It starts off from 0/1 and goes though to a final number. The final number is where person a is situated, or at least his/her server/IP Address is situated.

It gives you details about the person and what not, but sometimes you cannot get details as details don't get specified.

Hope that helped.

It's a neat program, but it's not especially useful. It doesn't do anything you couldn't do by hand. There's a windows command (tracert) that will give you all of the servers between you and an address. Once you have their ISP you can get DNS information from it to find it's address (but not the address of the person you're tracing).
Of course, you don't get a pretty map that way. And if movies are right, you're not a 1337 hax0r if you don't use flashy graphical programs to hack.

I *did* help you in your last starting of this thread some weeks ago! Try looking at Post [link] again! I use this *all* the time to track IPs - requires no installation on your computer, and all you need is a browser. It's practically idiot proof in is use!

Gah! (runs arounds like a crazed chicken because people can't seem to follow simple directions....)

Now, if want you really want is to look at the computer at the end of that IP and see what kind of OS they are running, or what ports are open so that you can crack their system, then you need the free network tool called nmap. Look it up on the net and download the latest Windoze version.

Go ahead, do it! The prison system needs more people so they can get more funding but puttint people like you in prison/jail who don't know what they are doing! =)

Enjoy!

Not entirely correct... only those IP addresses that are registered with latitude and longitude locations, or are owned by a person or service provider (usually done by the company that owns the IP address) and are stored in a database someplace can be used to find out location info.

Often what you get is the last 'node' of the IP that has the City/State/Country. Only by using a program called 'whois' can you get the street address of who owns that IP address - usually it is the location of the service provider.

The VisualRoute service I mentioned can provide a whois service by clicking on the last IP link in the list - a pop up appears with the whois info.

Or even better get the version of Windoze with it built in!
Never have IP troubles again!
