Like host long long periods at a time..like 1 day straight.
it should do that if you leave it for a day, put crashes and windows overall will crash it and force it down.
the other alternative is getting a website to host it, or digitalbyond.org hosting

Maybe you could have 2 systems. One that is the main host that try's hosting 24/7 but when ever it goes down causes system 2 to boot up hosting service and host the game while the server 1 is still down. Then make server 2 boot up server 1 while its hosting.

Actually - it does not 'close' once a day... just the DSL line resets giving me a new IP every day... I'm rarely down for more that 1-2 minutes as the dyndns client updates my ip address for digitalbyond.dyndns.org - the worse that happens is that people in games during the update get dropped because the IP changes.

But you can't deny the fact that everyone gets disconnected because the connection goes down. Thus, the server closes once per day. =P

That implies (to me) that the physical hardware goes off-line or shutsdown. Not the case in this, er.. case. So you get dropped for a minute or two - big deal! =P What do ya expect for $4/month!

I suppose I should clarify the definition of "server" in this case: Dream Daemon. Technically speaking, the game stays up, but everyone's connections are terminated to the point of seeming as if the server goes down.

And this is a point I'm making specifically to digitalBYOND hosting - the Daemon does *not* go down, only the router resets it's IP address, then the dnydns update program detects this and makes an update so that people can reconnect properly.

Depends on what OS you are using to run it.

If you are using linux, you can create a crontab file which will auto-restart the server if it crashes. It actually checks to see if the process is running every X amount of time you specify.

If you are using a windows system, then you will have to scan for a program to help you there.

Cheers

Actually, the help is appreciated, but he's running a Linux box already. He already has a process to reset the connection when it goes down.
