I am new to B.Y.O.N.D but not necessarily the forum, A friend of mine at school uses this program and its message board and I have seldomly looked it over, but finally decided to check it out for myself.

Well it seems that BYOND is a large gathering of games based mainly on Dragonball Z. I agree the show is alright but I can't possibly see how the game creators expect to make an online R.P.G about it. From what I have played, nothing really expresses the show, and the only possible R.P.G one could make would be a single-player one.
(Playing a terribly inaccurate fan-game is one my pet pieves)

I much prefer playing new games that the creators actually created themselves; This includes name, theme, characters and story. Fan games are fine once in a while but I believe this, BYOND, would attract more people if the developers focused on originality rather than making something that they have seen on TV.
If this seems in any way offensive I do apologize, and I realize that a good handful of people do take pride in creating something that they can call their own; And I have tryed alot of these games.

Hopefully when I learn a good deal of this programming language I can contribute to these games, and already I have started on a project thanks to the Tutorials, reference page, guide, and Demos that I have looked through.

Scince I am new, It would help alot if some people introduced themselves, as I shall do below.

Introduction

I am 17, male, and live in Upstate New York. I am a collectable card game veteran. My favorite TV Shows are Buffy: The Vampire Slayer, YuGiOh(Basically the Dragons), Smallville, and the majority of Cartoon Network's "Adult Swim".

And if you havn't noticed I love the mystical creatures called Dragons.

...Guardian of Dragons...
Oh yea, I forgot to ask if anyone here plays the CCG Yu-Gi-Oh, also called Dual Monsters. I find this game entertaining although I first thought it was going to be a disgrace like "Pokemon", but gladly it isn't.

My best cards right now are my three "Blue Eyes White Dragons", Japanese "Blue Eyes Ultimate Dragon", "2 Red eyes black Dragons", "2 Red Eyes Black Metal Dragons", "Supreme Black Skull Dragon","3 Dark Magicians", and many other dragons.

The good thing about Dragons is my "Lord of D" effects and mountain terrain.

Umm. I dont play any card games, but i do pay byond games!!!
Welcome Herr Dragon Protector to the realms of Byond, hope you make it big!
It's nice to see some new people here at BYOND. I'd like to welcome you the realm BYOND and would like extend a hand of friendship to you.
I'm a 13 year old male student at Clear Creek middle school, 8th grade in Gresham, Oregon. I do like YuGiOh cards yet have little. I'd like to tell you that I'm fairly new to BYOND as well and would love to be personal buddies with you, to share experience with and casually communicate with. I'll add you to my pager list. if you don't like it, or feel as if I'm invading your privacy, just tell me. I'll take you off the list.

P.S. I love dragons as well, very fascinating.
What up.
The mass of the DBZ games can be attributed to two things:

1. The advertisement of a DBZ game called DBZ Spar on some DBZ message board, thus attracting hordes of intellectually inferior "DBZers."

2. The stealing and distribution of the source code to a popular DBZ game, DBZeta. This was Migzor's (I think) fault, although some blame can go to Dracon, who sent the whole source code to Migzor, under the impression that Migzor would be making maps.

Since any Joe Blow (or, that is, [prefix][DBZ-related-name][number], ie, SSJPiccilo287) could buy a popular game for a buck or two, (which could be saved by calling 1-800-COLLECT, of course!) the HUB proliferated with "rips." As a rule, disregarding games that would fit into one or more of these categories is a good idea:

1. Games that sell / give away "GM" powers.
2. Games that have a list of "GMs" on the HUB.
3. Games with many grammar/spelling errors.
4. Games that blatantly break copyright laws (charging in any way for a DBZ game is common).
5. Games that have "PBags"

Those are sure signs of games "made" by DBZers.

Of course, not all DBZ games are bad, but they are buried by the rest. RaeKwon, who is now re-working DBZeta (Dracon gave it to him when he abandoned it) is a respected member of the community. If you see them on the forums frequently, they usually are.

Oh, and welcome aboard. If you decide to learn to program, then remember:

Don't ask for "The Code."
Don't use "Net Speak" (Or AOL Speak, for those of you who don't like the term Net Speak =P). This applies even if you don't want to learn to program.
And remember, usr is evil.

Well I appreciate the directions, and of course I will learn to code. I would love to make an online Collectable and Trading card game based on my own rules, graphics, etc. as this has been a goal of mine scince I learned of this site.

As the dragonball Z games go, I learned my lesson from the first 10 I went through hoping to find a good one, but had no good luck.

Also, "DBZer" is such a terrible term, as I myself find the show somewhat interesting. I know it probably isn't directed to the average fan of the show, but the show isn't nearly bad enough (Yet, america still has yet to fully trash it) to represent this appearent group of... well fools.

I liked those links also, the PeeBag is nice.

I hope to achieve some sort of reputation here, so I have a vague description of "what not to do to annoy other members" and building a fan-game is scratched off the list for a while.

Unfortunately, it seems that the people who hang around DBZ forums where DBZ Spar was advertised (I assume they make guesses at what will happen next, argue about who is the coolest character, and have random "roleplayed" fights with each other) consists of mostly people who would not be considered the brightest of the DBZ fans. DBZer is a term for the fan of DBZ who acts in a stupid way. Unfortunately, the exception (an intelligent DBZer) wasn't common enough to warrent a change in the term.
Welcome to BYOND! Here you're going to find all sorts of experiences, good, bad, happy, sad, all these are found in BYOND! But anyways, enjoy the community, and best wishes if you decide to make a game.

I agree with Nadrew in sticking up for RaeKwon. I must admit, that as the common newbie i was not too long ago, I fell into the "Can you give me The Code" category. After realizing that no one in their correct state of mind was gonna just give me "code". I was ready to give up on BYOND like the stupid newbie I was. And if it wasn't for RaeKwon's official DBZeta game being so impressive, I probably would have never seen what was truly capable of the DM Code.

As far as i'm concerned, RaeKwon is to be much respected for his work as any other human is for oustanding achievements...

*Laughing* Oh and by the way, welcome to BYOND!
In response to Garthor
The correlation probably lies more along the lines of age than fandom of DBZ, actually...

The vast majority of the fans are pre-to-mid-teens... Which aren't on average, the most mature and "intelligent" group of people...

Yes, there are a lot of examples that are contrary to stereotype, but for the most part, 12-15 year olds are not decent citizens...lol

Take a look at the few examples of DBZers who are at least respectable around here, and you'll find that they're also probably the older members of the group...

Chances are, if the group of fans that this system attracted first had been of some other cartoon or anime with a fanbase of around the same age, then you'd have the same behavior, but with different names and crappy fangames...lol

Although, in my experience, no other fan network is quite as quick and efficient at passing news around, or nearly as prominent in general, as DBZ fans... So, the second the leak was out about BYOND, it spread through the DBZ fan community like wildfire... Much faster than it could spread through the Dragon Warrior fanbase, for instance...even though DWO seems to be the most popular game around here...lol

So, it was only inevitable...

And speaking of DBZ's popularity, it once again took the top spot for the year on Lycos's most popular search terms... I think this makes three years in a row...

Examples like me (13, and if I waited about 6 more minutes before hitting the post button, 14. Yay for me.)
In response to Garthor
To be quite honest, you've been an ass on quite a few occasions that I've seen...lol Perfectly fitting into your age group (nothing wrong with that, though...it's the natural way of things)

However, you have been much better than the average... So yeah, I'd consider you an example of a decently mature 12-15 year old...

And happy birthday!
In response to SuperSaiyanGokuX
Take me for a better example, I'm 15.

Quick? Extremely. Efficient? Not in the slightest. They spread info, but the rate in which it mutates is insane.
Take DB Zeta for example. If RaeKwon mentioned that in a few version's if everything goes well a new secret race might be put in. I can almost garentee that by the next day it would be 'official news' that:
-The new race is going to be added in the next version.
-The new race is *Insert Some Race that appeared for 20 seconds in a movie*.
-The new race has 6 transformations, the first being as strong as SSJ2, and the last being 3 times stronger the SSJ4.
-The new race can only be accessed by paying RaeKwon 200 BYONDimes.
I think thats caused by the younger DBZers. They take too much on as fact. If there friend tells them something (Or even if they just read it on a DBZ site), they consider it fact.

Hahaha. This reminds me of what happened when I said I was going to add new spells in Trinity Star.

Hey! Well errr..... Ok your right most 12 - 15 year olds are not the greatest mannered and most of them when just starting there experience on BYOND always ask for "The Code" and don't bother to try anything them selves. When I was starting out I started with a basic game called virtual chat. I looked at the tutorials and demos, and didn't ask for much help on the forums. So I guess I could say I was one of the Semi-Intelligent newbies at the time.
So what I am basicly saying is I agree with you SSGX.

~ Jermman

P.S. I love DBTC!
