Hmm like having a byond school this summer would be cool. And making a book in html so people could read it and do the lessons to understand it more. Uhhh just too brink up the thought.

For example, if you have one really smart student, gets everything you say the first time, and one not so bright student who has to have it explained a few times the smarter one cant go on to the next level until the other one is ready. Umm, isn't that the whole point of learning? Thats what a class is for. You work together to help the person who has trouble. It doesn't mean they aren't smart. So your saying if somebody is good at math and another person isn't so good, he is not smart? It depends how they learn. I myself learn better by touching the object than listening, or seeing. Whats that called? (starts with a "K") NEwayz, it would most likely mean it would take me a couple of tries to complete soemthing. |

If you look through the forum for posts related to 'BYOND camp' or 'BYONDfest', you will see that we have discussed this before. It's a great idea but many feel we should wait until after BYOND grows some more, to make it worthwhile to plan such an event for a large number of people. Right now, only a few could attend (most are teenagers who cannot travel alone to strange places), so it would not be worth the expense of setting up seminars for only 8-10 people. Have patience, such events *will* happen in the future - just not right now.

Hey, what about a BYOND Bus? Dan and Tom roaming the country in an old repainted Greyhound bus, sharing the joy of BYOND to all whom they meet on the road!
But anyway, an idea to make a BYOND Utility to teach people within a program would be very nice, yet I fear many would feel the wrath of pagerbans. It could be done in such a way as only those who pay for a class can join and listen to guest speakers explain coding basics and give away tips. |

Just so you know the Raeqwon(one of the makers of zeta) is pretty good at coding, zeta is like a year old, so its quite out of date as to his skills, and i think dracon isnt bad.

Still a really funny though. Ill be able to drive soon(before summer) so that wouldn't be so hard for me and i would probibly be intersted in meating all of you face to face, but i agree than there is not enough people on BYOND right now to realy do something like that. And i was wondering, how old is Dan and Tom?

Formed in 1996 by two graduating college students desperate to avoid real employment, Dantom initially faced the pressure of trying to break new ground in the corporate dominated industry of computer entertainment. Now, almost five years later, with the release of their first product, BYOND, that ground has been broken. The world awaits...

I think Tom is 28, I'm not too sure about Dan.

As for a school, I'm working on that part. Look up my name in the hub, and if you have any questions, comments, recamendations, I'd like to hear it.(especially the recamendatons)

i did have an idea to have a e-class using mICR or yahoo chat(just because they are good for chats) or maybie my BYOND chat program(not released yet) but i would not be able to teach much, only the newbies. But i dont mind hosting if anyone would realy be interested in teaching or attending.

Just wait awile for me to make a class or two at my school. Then maybe we can get some "smarter" new users.

Tip: Don't host it at Geocities, Geocities is the least professional website host around.

Okay, it's extreamly early alpha, but the first release is out. Look up the BYOND School game and run it yourself.

Heres one clue.out of college age.I think. Er...I don't really agree to that. Alot of people that are not in College nor are at the College age. (School Children) Can be quite smart in their own little way. Just because you say that you would rather have College aged students in this 'class' I would have to oppose your opinion. This being that some of the great coders on BYOND are under the College Age. So that has definitely pointed out to me that your opinion would be quite unsettling for some. As for people paying, for whoever said it, I also disagree. This is because if people have to pay to learn the DM then it is rather selfish on the Teacher. I know that it takes time to teach but I would say that more people learn from people they like. As for me, this is how I learn, from people teaching me so long as I can understand the person and, so long as the person understands how and what it takes for me to learn. I am a rather slow learner and I only pick up on things fast with certain people. But not paying for a teacher would mean more of a chance for me to learn something and also give me a push of motivation to learn. Paying would only de-motivate me and, make me want to learn myself where I would not be so motivated... Then I would end up giving up on the finding of an error. I am willing to be a teacher on this program but I know that I am not as good as most people, I can only do certain things so I wouldn't be of that much use. Anyway, back to the point. It doesn't matter what age you are to take a clase, all that matters is that you want to learn how to program. To do this the student would need patience, the right attitude and a good behaviour. As for the teacher, he/she would need patience, a good outline if needed, someone who can understand and explain succinctly what the student has troubles with, someone who can succinctly explain and describe what the basics of DM are, and the right attitude to go about bad students. Anyway, sorry for my babble there :S --Lee |

Also, teaching itself isnt a easy task, especially with a class of more then 1 person. Im sure that I couldnt do it. You have to keep the class at the same level, which sometimes means focusing more on certiant students, and holding others back.
For example, if you have one really smart student, gets everything you say the first time, and one not so bright student who has to have it explained a few times the smarter one cant go on to the next level until the other one is ready.
Anyway, I supose the main point of the post is its a good idea as long as you get the right person/people to do it.
I think someone else tried it before and it didnt work because the class was free and couldnt be controlled.
So you had people coming into the lesson half way through, talking crap for a minute until they got booted.
