I was thinking of making a lib that would include a 3D icon maker system and special effects. Say lighting or shading. It would also include a readme guide that you could read to learn what you can do with the lib. I think Dan Tom making a Byond 3D program would be a great idea but till then I think this will tide you over. It will also include a menu wizard that will let you add in menus to make your 3D game more graphical.

This would be good for all types of games such as RPG,Action,Adventure, or sports. Only problem It might have is that it would slow the games speed down alot. So I would suggest maybe having a player limit or getting a better connection to host it.

This lib will be selling any were from 100 to 200 Byond dimes. And presets/gfxs will be selling any were from 50 to 80 byond dimes. I will be making a RPG game with this kinda lib but not as advanced as the one I will be selling so people will get too see how good of a job it will do.

For all of you who are astonished at the price I might be offering it for there will be a 5 day free trial to test it.

BYOND will never be 3D. It's so almost totally against the core concept of the engine that it would require a major overhaul of everything.

Yeah. The bottom line is, if you want to make something 3D, don't use BYOND. BYOND is designed for 2D, and always will be. It makes no sense to try to make a 3D program for a 2D engine, while there are plenty of 3D engines readily available elsewhere.

I still think having some access to DS source code would overcome a lot of BYOND's limitations. If we could program our own clients, then I believe creating 3d BYOND games would be a definite possibility. All you would have to do is get the information for where the player is on the map and render it accordingly.

Visual Basic can support 3d. Actually, it can support it rather nicley.

Yes, I think the basic BYOND paradigm (turfs, mobs, etc.) could translate to 3D nicely. Instead of icons, you'd have groups of 3D objects. A nice way to illustrate this is with Grand Theft Auto 3, if you've had a chance to try it; it's a fully 3D game, but you can change your view to a directly-overhead view that looks just like its 2D predecessors, GTA 1 and 2. Now imagine this overhead view being tile-based, and then imagine switching the view from that mode back to 3D mode.

However, it'd take a LOT of work on Dantom's part. If it ever happens, it won't be until they've seen some significant rewards for the work they've already put into the system. And I doubt very much that allowing open access to the client code would get Dantom anything except a ton of questions about how the code works...

How'd you suppose they'd get rewards? I personally think they should have Merchandise, BYOND T-Shirts, BYOND Tighty Whiteys, Action Figures, the works!

I'd gladly settle just for better isometric support, myself. The existing layer system won't work too well with action isometric.

I'm playing around with NeverWinter Nights, to see what their game creation tools are like, and one could imagine BYOND someday moving to that level of 3D. It's 3rd person, and basically uses the paradigms BYOND does: tiles, areas, etc.

I've actually considered little digitalmouse stuffed animals as a promotional tool for the new business - but right now I'm settling for mousepads with the digitalmouse international logo and url. Cheaper that way...

I actually wonder why no one has ever thought of opening a BYONDshop which is availible, then I thought "No one here owns a corporation that could mass produce items and sell it online". well, just me but would anyone want to order a hrh stuffed animal? I'd like to order a mouse that looks like mine which I'd pay for the custom things (staff, blue robes, pointy hat). But maybe a byond shirt or hat would sell a bit, althought I'm saving my money for a Doom 3 and Quake 4 hat. Oh, I know one that could sell a bit, shoes where they have the words byond on the sides and on the front of one you could choose to have it say "Your a-- here".
There *is* a way to make and sell most of that stuff (mugs, mousepads, t-shirts, etc.) without going into production yourself - CafePress! (www.cafepress.com)

You create a virtual store, upload images/logos, and they print and ship the merchandise to who-ever buys it. You take their base price, and a bit of cost margin for yourself, and ta-da: profits! I've got one for digitalmouse, but I have not uploaded a decent logo yet. The great thing is that I needed no start-up costs (other than conneecting to the internet to create my 'store'.

As does Dungeon Siege use that same way to build its levels, Just a bunch of prefabs that can be used with many different skins and place in tile format.

With karate chop action! Oooh, and one of those guns that shoot of the plastic ammunition.
