I was sittin around thinkin' and I wondered how many people on BYOND are "Gifted" as in having a higher IQ than average (My School Requires An IQ of 135 or higher to get in). Also what is/was the "Gifted" program at your school called, My Is Pioneers(For Grades 2-5) And Heights(For Grades 6-8) after that it's honor classes. I figure most people on BYOND are. Please Reply.

I did about 3 assignments of homework all last year. Got A's and B's in all my classes (Execpt for Spanish, go figure, lol) I got a C in Spanish II.

Starting Second Semester of 7th grade, I havn't done much HOMEwork. I did it all at school in a rush.

And look at me now...

Oh yeah, during this time, I was in the "Magnet" Program, now its the "Speacial Interest" program, now they mixed the two "Speacial Interest/Magnet" kids with the "Regular" kids. Hahha, I feel sorry for my bro.

I'm in Highschool now and am "Advanced"...

I went to a school in the Eastside (Ghetto/Gangsta side) the first 6 weeks of the year. It was full of Ghetto Gangsta and all that. So it was either you become a Gangsta or a Nerd.... had no friends (Chose not to) and left after 6 weeks. BTW - I had to get up at 6 AM to catch the bus and I came back at 5 PM. It was supposed to be an "Academically Advanced thingy"... I saw it as a piece of crap.

Unfortunately I go to another school (Barrio/Vato Loco) where my mom works :/

That must really suck. My school really sucks. My whole life sucks. That would all change if I moved out of this stupid college town.

Its not all that bad. My mom works in the Snack Line at the cafeteria so I get free stuff!

But then people try to use me for that... lol...losers...

Anyways, its not all that bad. Except for the fact that if I am within 3 feet to a girl, my mom asks me when I get home (Who was that girl?,Yadda Yadda Yadda, You're going to get her pregnant, yadda yadda yadda)

After I while, I found the greatest comeback for that crap, shuts her up good. Its... 'Are you trying to turn me gay or something?'

Works like a charm. ;)

Oh yeah? When I went into the 8th grade algebra class there were only 20 or 25 kids in it, so nyah, I got into a more exclusive math class than you did.

Granted, the entire 8th grade comprised some 40-45 kids at that point.
I'm in my district's gifted program. I've heard that the requirements to get in were to get a certain grade on some test back in elementary school...which I had aced. Most things have always come fairly easy to me...

Oh, by the way, we don't have a special name for it here, it's just the Gifted Program *shrugs*

I wasn't bragging about anything. I was just trying to prove the point that Tennessee's educational system sucks. (And yes I am from Tennessee and so is Soccerguy13(in fact I know him personally since he goes to my school.))

I am, by no means, "gifted", IQ wise at least. I come from poor family with poor education. My IQ is around 130, but my school has no standards for IQ. My school is mostly about sports. I go to Creston High School, which isn't really a good school. We are known for coming in 2nd place at the state championship 2 years ago though. Our football is still really good.

I used to consider myself gifted. I began programming around the age of 8 on an old Commodore 64 we found in somebodies trash. From there, I worked up to what I am now. I have always been smarter than all my friends, which always improved my self esteem. However, once I got online and started talking to the average Joe at BYOND, I began to feel not so gifted. A lot of the people her like to brag about how gifted they think they are.

What always striked me as odd is this:
If these people have IQs that are so much higher than mine, shouldn't their proficiency with BYOND eventually surpass mine? Not to sound stuck up, but a lot of the people claiming to have such high IQs can't code for beans.

I would be interested in knowing what some of the BYOND guru's IQs are.

well, I finished the university 2 years ago. I study Antropology. But, in chile, each class has 45 students in a classroom. We are partners from 5 years old top 17 years, then, we go to University. In my country, is not easy go to university. We must pass a lot of test first, because Chile few universities. That.

I took Algebra in 8th grade and there were only 5 kids in it. However, when I got into highschool, they made me take it again because they said my school did not provide the education well enough (which makes sense, it was a small environmental science school trying to educate me in math with a science teacher who sucked at math). Then after that, I didn't finish my 100 skill tests, so I got an incomplete for the 9th grade. That was no biggie because I could easily finish them up on my own free time, however, that teacher quit his job and my incomplete immediately shifted to an E, and I had to take it again.
I wouldn't say I was smart, I usually get B's and C's throughout my school year, but I did learn to read when I was 3 -_-. I think the S.A.T. scores are either wrong, or rigged, I scored a post highschool(Highest level granted) on each one except math for the past 3 years, now my teachers just think I don't apply myself when I really do. The only thing I have is wisdom I think, but I don't show it enough socially.

What is bothersome is that a school requires a certain level (135 was mentioned in the first post I believe) of IQ just to attend when it is fairly common knowledge that IQ measurements are not very accurate. You could be tested 10 times for IQ placement and come up easily with a range of +/- 40 points of your needed 135 IQ.

Doesn't sound fair to a kid who has a headache or just a bad day concentrating... and the school risks getting slackers who just got lucky that day, but can't even spell 'special'...(ahem)

According to my (possibly not-so-accurate) knowledge of IQs, 110 is AVERAGE. So 130 would indeed be above average. The only IQ test I've ever taken was a silly online one (and no telling how accurate those are) that put me at 141.

I'm of the opinion though that IQ does not really say anything about your intelligence. What IQ really represents is how fast you can think. I base that idea on the type of questions that IQ tests generally have, and the fact that they're timed. That means though, that someone who is in fact quite stupid, but has a high IQ can be good at things that require fast-thinking. Action games, for example, require fast thinking. Arguing in a chatroom requires fast thinking. Being a fast thinker doesn't make you smart, even if it means you kick butt in action games and always win arguments.

Whether that's wholly accurate or not is another story.

Personally, I prefer to avoid any conflicts over how intelligent I am. Instead of being smarter or stupider than other people, I'd rather think of myself as different. And considering that I've never met anyone who thinks quite the same way I do, I think that's accurate.

Listen I wasn't trying to brag. I was just stating my opinion that in Tennessee there aren't to many bright people so it makes it easy to get into algebra. I didn't mean to begin to start a controversy over who is smarter or not.

Nobody is fighting over who is more intelligent, so why are you being so defensive, acting like a peace keeper will only make it worse. Just because people are showing doubts about another person does not mean they are engaging in a fight, it's only a fight if somebody states someone is a liar, or someone states someone is wrong, oh yea and if name calling starts....

The IQ represents a mesure between how big is the brain and how big is the body (most the head). It's just a proportion.

Then, if we talk about IQ = Intelligence we are wrong.
Big brains == high intelligence in most case. But not ever.

Was very hard to me write this post...my english sucks, maybe my IQ is lower than you... hahahaha!!! lol
