??? Buffy? I can't even describe how unexcited that makes me, oh well, whatever floats your boat, at least it's not pokemon.

For those not understanding: The show has been on 6 years. Rumors of this game began roughly that long ago. I'm not sure if it was the longest, but it was long.
That said, I'm not sure how well a show based on certain characters can translate into an open RPG. Without involving those characters, it becomes just one more game to hunt demons in. I think it loses a lot. PS: Pokemon has a decent open RPG environment. Ash and friends vs a small part of Team Rocket is not necessary. Be a trainer and have fun. DBZ is the same way. |

"One more game to hunt demons in..."
On that point, I have to strongly disagree. The Buffiverse is bigger than just the Sunnydale environment... it is a very large world of occult conspiracy, demons, undead, supersoldiers, robots, cyborgs, superpowers, etc. living side-by-side with a mundane world that resembles the one in which we live. The TV franchise comprises two TV shows (soon to be three, with Giles's coming show on BBC) in vastly different locales (yes, they're both California, but one is suburbia and one is big city), plus the comic books, novels, etc., that are set all over the world and throughout time, past and present, not all of which deal with the established characters at all. The Buffy universe is extremely unique. It's kind of like the World of Darkness, except that it's intentionally funny. With the idea of "demon culture" existing in and around human culture, with only select humans having any knowledge of this, and working to keep the two in some kind of balance, it's got an occassional MIB feel to it, but it's certainly not the world of MIB. The mix of weirdness, humor, and horror is perhaps most remniscent of Steve Jackson's Illuminati world setting, but without the omnipotent control groups (as far as we know). I've already got an established GURPS game that runs in a very Buffy-esque world, but I would jump at the chance to play or run an RPG that offers "the real deal" with plenty of background material. |
Like I said, it's one more game to hunt demons in. None of those things are specific to Buffy. The television shows succeed because they manage to use those things in an entertaining way. They have excellent Game Masters and excellent players. Even if those are sold separately, you can get them for any game and do the same things.
If there is a unique, cohesive and fun game engine, then I may still be interested. However, even though I love the shows, the license does not inspire me. |
Hmmm... Curiosity overtakes me...
Are you a fan of the movie as well, Lexy? I mean...without that, none of the other stuff would exist...lol |
