Actually it looks pretty interesting. I remember a long time ago I developed a similar program in qbasic.

I was going to make a similar game as well, so I don't find it controversial. =)

I learned to hack when smoke or foreign objects got in my lungs.
I have no complaints about the game, just constructive criticism. Here is the list of stuff I would like to see either A) implemented or B) removed.

-Better documentation which would explain the point of the game easier, what software/tools do, how to use them, etc.

-A statpanel, or some kind of information display. I'm sick of downloading some tools to forget which ones I have, and how to use them. You could call the tab Harddrive and list the items you have installed.

-A favorites list you can add servers to, for easy access. Also be able to right click on a link in this list and select connect to connect to it quickly.

-Saving of characters/servers.

-Removing of the "say" command. If you were really on a computer, you'd need to email someone to communicate to them. The general chat completely floods my screen and I can't tell what is going on usually.

-More words added to the not-a-correct-password list. Right now it's really easy to pick out the right password if it's not in the list. There are things like "byond" "hacker" "button" "el1te" and "god" you seriously need to put in at least 50 or 100 words so it is actually like hacking to get a password.

-New Software - Password Cracker: Goes one by one to decipher the password, but takes a while to crack it. Speed of cracking depends on the security of the server.

-Rename those stupid names for softwares. "Super Proxy Bypass" sounds like a NES game. Rename them to "Proxy Bypasser v1, v2, v3"

-More servers. I mean, MORE servers. There are about 6 main servers with a few more extensions on them right now. There should be a few Criminal Record Databases, several government servers (CIA, FBI) and possibly corporation servers.

That is all.
If games involving hacking are controversial, then Shadowrun is controversial.

Well, yeah... "geeking someone" sounds dirty to those not otherwise enlightened.

Documention on the way

Some programs can't actually be placed inside your contents, so it would be even more confusing if some came up and others didn't

If foomer would give me the damn world saving code from eynsa libary then yes...

yes, but n00bies would be even more confused, I tried an irc approch but it just doesn't work.

I know that, but then the real word wouldn't show up often enough.

Yes, I have played uplink. No, I can't do it on byond.

-Rename those stupid names for softwares. "Super Proxy Bypass" sounds like a NES game. Rename them to "Proxy Bypasser v1, v2, v3"

like uplink... this isn't a copy u know

Ok, can I make the point this is a multiplayer game, not UPLINK!!!!!!!
That is all.

They don't have to be in contents to be in a statpanel. Stapanels can display any list as easily as they display contents. If for some reason you don't have/want a list of programs, you could still display available programs in the stapanel with a little extra work.

Sorry for asking for too much from Uplink. It's just that Uplink is too immersive. You can do almost anything you want hacking-wise in that game, and yours.....I cannot say the same for.

You know, I'm not sure exactly where the idea of naming programs by version number came from originally, but I'm pretty sure it wasn't a game called Uplink.

a) Uplink had a budget, a very large one at that. I'm not even asking for a donation.

b) Uplink took ages and had many people working on it. I'm doing myself inbetween revising for exams.

c) I'm just a kid. Although I can 'use' C++ and other such programs, I can't create much beyond 'hello world'.

Comparing my game to Uplink is just a tad unfair. Particually as I really like Uplink, and just don't want to make a copy of it.
