My all time favorite is RUSH - too bad they semi-retired recently, but I guess after having *25* modestly successful albums produced nearly every year since 1976 (17 studio albums alone), you probably deserve a much needed break from touring - which was their strength: an excellent concert band! I understand there is a new album coming out in Spring 2002...

decent fan site: http://www.homestead.com/wor/
discography: http://www.homestead.com/wor/disk.html
and true fans know about: http://www.rushcon.org/

The lead singer of RUSH, Geddy Lee, had a bit of a screaching voice that took some getting use to in the early years (which meloded out later), but the best thing about the band was that the music had meaning - there were stories about real things, feelings and attitudes - with catchy tunes to back them up...

I also like the Dave Matthews Band, Cranberries, Sheryl Crow, Wierd Al Yankovic ("It's all about the Pentiums, baby"), old Police, old Yes, old Nirvana, some Techno, some House/Industrial, some old Punk (Dead Milkmen for example), and some original classical music...

There is rarely any country that I can stand for long periods of time - but a select few of the women country artists are ok.

Hey! Did you know that if you play some country backwards, the singer gets his truck, his dog, and his girl back? :p

The fans probably need a break too, if they have to go to the music store every two weeks to get the latest album! :)

50 megs? Heh, I have 12.2 gigs of mp3s.

I can't for the life of me understand what people's fascination is with wasting so much hard drive space, which could better be spent with tons of computer games.

Who cares how much space is wasted?

How much money did the music artists or game developers get from you?

Speaking of Rush in concert, the one time I saw them, I spilled beer on Tom's lap. Just your random Dantom tie-in for the day.

P.S. I just wanna say that what I said in my last post wasn't completely accurate. Only most of what I listen to has some meaning. Download Guttermouth - Punk Rock Academy
and you'll see what I mean, hehe..

My favorite is Megadeth

Speaking of Megadeth, they disbanded this week. Dave Mustaine suffered a severe injury to his left arm and hand. It screwed up some of his nerves, and he can't play guitar. It was a sad day for heavy metallers =(

Well, everyone has their own opinion, and we should respect that (as long as it doesn't cause harm to others)

Oh, one more thing. With you saying that whole thing about music just being about making money these days, I better not find any games you make ever costing dimes

Here's an official press release from Dave Mustaine himself, directly from Megadeth.com:

David Mustaine:
During the first week of January, 2002, while Megadeth was on hiatus, in Texas, I suffered an injury which caused severe nerve damage to my left arm and hand. It was diagnosed as Radial Neuropathy - specifically, a "compressed radial nerve." My doctors tell me it will take about a year to make as complete a recovery as I can, and even then, we don't know how complete that is going to be. I am working hard with a great team of doctors and physical therapists daily, and God willing, someday I hope to play guitar again.

Here are some reference sites for Radial Neuropathy:
My favorites would have to be rock, heavy metal, techno, and songs that could fit well in Dance Dance Revolution (5th mix songs for example). I absolutely DESPISE rap and can not stand it, just try not to flame me as that type of music seems very popular now.

I also despise rap. I can't think of one rap song that I enjoy listening to. The bad thing is that at the dance last night, all they played was rap, with one Nickelback song in the mix. Of course, every once and a while they'd play the song that I absolutely despise. It's like some sort of African-American music spliced with techno. Ugh!

My favourite music are as follows:

Rock
  • Green Day
  • Andrew WK
  • Weezer
  • Linkin Park
  • Puddle of Mudd
  • Gob
  • Kiss
  • Bush
  • AC/DC
  • Nickelback
  • Rage Against the Machine
  • Nerf Herder

    Punk
  • Blink 182
  • MxPx
  • Descendants
  • The Ramones
  • A Newfound Glory
  • Nirvana
  • Rancid
  • Fear Factory
  • Sum 41

    Metal
  • Metallica
  • Megadeth
  • Slayer
  • Pantera
  • In Flames
  • Disturbed
  • Ozzy

Game developers get a lot of money from me, considering I purchased just about everything I have, except for the games from the early nineties -- or before -- which no one is selling any more. =P

Good choices... I'd say I have to agree with all of them (all of them that I've heard of anyway... I'd probably like the remaining few if I could hear their stuff...)

And speaking of Ozzy... His MTV show is quite possibly the best show on TV these days... It is absolutely hilarious...

Nope...missed the T in alternative...
I never managed to hit this thread when it was around, so I'll hit it now...

Tori Amos is to my music tastes what Buffy the Vampire Slayer is to my television habits. I also like Ani DiFranco, Sarah McLachlan, Melissa Etheridge, (geez, what did I say about predictability?) Meredith Brooks, and Lisa Loeb. In non-solo artists, I'm very fond of Belly, Hole, and Garbage. In non-double-x-chromosome music, I like Smashing Pumpkins, REM, Live, and the Goo Goo Dolls.

I also like instrumental music... I usually have my digital cable playing the atmospheric or classical music channels when I'm writing or coding. I also have some CDs I use for these purposes... the soundtracks to Hamlet and Hannibal, some "new age" CDs that belong to my girlfriend, and music by one of my favorite groups that no one here has heard of, Brule. Brule is a native American group (built around a father-daughter) team that mixes traditional styles with modern new age, to very good effect. They're a positive joy to see in person, as their performance incorporates not only very powerful music, but story telling and very energetic dance.
