I say that we start up an annual or bi-annual BYOND awards event to recognize all of the great games on BYOND. Nominations could be made by Dantom, Deadron or a committee of neutral coders and voted on by everyone. The winners could have the awards placed as a graphic on their hub listing for their game. Here are my suggestions for some of the categories:
Best Overall Game
Most Intuitive Design
Most Popular Game
Best New Game
Best Story
Best Graphics
Best Library/Tutorial/Demo

Or we just ban them from partipating in the awards.

How about a Best Fan Game category, so that we aren't overrun by DBZers in all categories?
Better yet, how about you can only vote for games listed on the Game Listing without searching? |

Yeah, confining the nominees to the games listing category would eliminate all of the DBZ gamers and would make the awards more meaningful. However, I have a feeling that "Best Fan Game" wouldn't go to a DBZ game....

But, you forget, the games would have to be nominated! Do you beleive that the parties he suggests (Dantom, well-entrenched oldbies) would pick such games? I personally don't think so. So, sounds like a fine idea to me.

Another thought would be to ban illegal (or grey legality) games O.o;

Whoa!!! Almost forgot Birdland!!! That would have to be a nomination for Best New Game, Most Intuitive Game or even a totally new category, Best Party Game!

Best Story That one caught my eye as the most erroneous award. TextMUD has no story, per se -- it is the designers of the web RPGs that create their own stories. If TextMUD could technically win that award based on the products created from it, then by that logic, that means that BYOND itself wins all of those awards hands down, since it was the one that provided the medium for all of the products circulating in BYONDspace. In other words, TextMUD itself can't win a Best Story award, though it can win some other award based on the product itself -- but not on the products created with it. =) I'd also like to propose another category, Most Inaptly Named. My nomination is mentioned three times in this post. ;-) And for one more category, I'd like to propose Most Annoying BYOND User. I don't have any nominations that I'd like to make publically, though I do have many eligibilities. ;-) |

Yeah, by TextMud I was making a general sweep of the games that use it-I've played several of them, I just couldn't remember the specific names of the games themselves. Most Annoying Award? Raekwon.

This sounds like a good idea on the surface, except until one considers the invasion of the BYOND community by DBZers. The idea that DBZ games not only could be voted on but would be likely to win simply because a lot of 11-year-old twits wouldn't know a decent game if it whacked them with a hammer... well frankly that's not a chance I'm willing to take. The last thing we need to do is give those games any kind of legitimacy.
